Door edge rubber

Has anyone used a rubber trim at the door edges to prevent damaging the paint while opening in garage / near other cars? My garage is rather small and I try to be super careful while opening doors but occasionally get a minor bump and see a spot of damaged paint .
I know the rubber looks ugly. Don't know if it will affect the door mechanism in any way. Is there any other option? Give some input guys. Thanks.

For my garage, I ended up putting padding on one of the walls to protect the doors especially with kids flinging them open. Took an old pool noodle and cut in half and then shortended into a few small sections. Adhered those pieces to the wall with double sided tape in the strategic spots where door strikes happen. Save me more than a few times.

Haven't tried anything on the doors themselves. I have seen dealers use a clear plastic edge on floor models and sell that as an upcharge, but not sure what product it is.

I would just buy one of those rubber pads used for gardening that protect you knees when you kneel. They are about 1 inch thick and about 10 by 15. Just screw into wall where door opens. They come in a variety of colors and are real cheap.

Awesome. I'll check out those in Home Depot or Lowe's or try the noodles from Toysr'us. Thanks guys.

2014 E550-sold 😩
That's a clever option there. Good resilient foam that is encapsulated in a strong covering.

I've just stapled a piece of floor carpeting to the wall in my garage where my door would normally strike the wall. Over the 30+ years we've lived in this house, it had protected countless car doors from the ravages of wall strikes.

There are some slim line door guards that are color coded, they blend in a lot better:

I used thick adhesive backed foam used for weather stripping that's sold in rolls for the permanent spot in the garage. For the doors I haven't found anything that looks decent, works, and stays
