We have a car we are going to sell and I would like ideas as to value. Original owner, car always in So. CA, never in snow, never wrecked, never smoked in, no kids, no dogs. never valet parked, always garaged 2010 E350 Luxury Sedan, just turned 50K miles. Out of warranty. Premium 1, premium 2, Drivers Assistance Pkg., wood steering wheel, Artic White, beige leather. Michelin Tires w/50% tread left. Car truly looks and drives like new. No issues. Your thoughts would be most appreciated, thanks.

If you write me a check for $24K for my same model year E550 4Matic with similar miles and options you can drive it home. I'm guessing this 350 to be fair valued at $20K, maybe less. These poor E class cars have always depreciated like crazy. Great value for buyers, however.Originally Posted by sghokie

Try punching it into nadaguide.com, edmunds, kbb.com. Most people tend to aim for the high numbers though. I prefer nadaguide, private party sale is typically between average and clean trade in, maybe a tad more if you've got good options. Most people tend to either price it above dealer retail or close to it and forget that the dealers will spend some money reconditioning the car, that is going over it and cleaning it up and some states require a minimum warranty. Plus lots of dealers also sell slightly below retail, typically between clean trade in and retail. The ones that seem to go above retail are those buy here pay here type places that have bad credit buyers who pay more anyway.

Try punching it into nadaguide.com, edmunds, kbb.com. Good recommendations.
Another source is to take it to Carmax and get them to tell you what they would pay you for it. Takes from 1-2 hours, but you can test drive cars they have for sell.
Basically, it is what someone else is willing to pay for it. Also, one man's pristine is another man's good.
In addition, very much affected by your market area.
One advantage from buyer's point on getting it from a dealer, is that they have somewhere and someone to complain to if something goes wrong. In private sales, you don't have that, so the price drops.
Would your dealer be interested? Probably not as it is six years old, but you never know.

^ correct, plus dealers will offer financing to move it out, where you are stuck with someone who has cash.

^not sure about it there but cant finance companies help out with private purchases?
also, El Cid is correct, i always think of my cars as pristine but others may think of it otherwise.
no offense to OP but when I look for a used car, I try to point out the "not so good" side of the car to negotiate the price down and anything good I see about it is a conversation i save for the mrs on our drive back home.
goodluck with the sale mate!

Sure, you can go to the bank, credit union or Uncle Fred to borrow the money, but in a private sale they are always skeptical. It's just that little extra effort that makes a private sale that much more difficult and aggravating.

down here, from a buyer and financers point of view, doesnt make any difference if you buy a car from the dealer, retailer or private saller as long as you get full cover insurance before you drive the car of.
for me but, i prefer goin to a dealer or a respectable retailer for warranty purposes and full car inspection not to mention trade in value for my old car. something OP should consider when selling his car privately.

Car Max won't give you more than 18 or 19, if you can get anything above 20 cash private party, you are a lucky guy

I sold this car today, for $23,000.00, to the very first person to look at it.

It is a buyers market for these cars. 50K miles on it was nothing like new really, you should have enjoyed it longer why sell and take a hit like that. Selling 23K that car is crazy for me. What can you get with it Honda Accord?Originally Posted by Streamliner

Anyway it's done and i'm hoping that you won't regret selling it, especially when i saw W213 from MB i like my W212 more. What an ugly looking thing that W213 is.
I just bought a pristine condition CPO 2010 e350 4Matic 66K on it P1, Luxury option paid around 24K. Very happy with the purchase.

Well, there are some of us, who like to buy or lease brand new cars. We took delivery of a nice, new 2016 E350 Sedan a few months back. We wanted a car with the Surround View Camera, the Nappa Leather interior and some of the other additional upgrades. I drive a 2015 S550, and my wife drives the E, because the size suits her. Think about it this way: if it were not for folks like us, then folks like you would not have the opportunity to buy our wonderful hand-me-downs!Originally Posted by Salacak

Well that is true and me myself doing the same thing last 11 years or at least i was until this vehicle; this is the first CPO car i ever bought. It's really crazy though you buy 60-80K vehicle and in two years it's worth half of it. That is the truth doesn't matter which brand.Originally Posted by Streamliner

Congratulations. Since it was your wife's car, does she get the money?
Too bad insurance rates are based on cost to repair vs. actual value of car. Discussed this with my insurance company and MB's are costly to repair compared to many other makes.
Incidentally, I am still enjoying my 2010 Luxury version with P1 package. Love the front end!
The April issue of Consumer Reports has interesting article on the new safety features available on cars today. One issue, and I can vouch for this, is that you often have to purchase options you don't want to get the best safety features. On my Nissan Rogue, I had to purchase a panoramic roof and the highest trim level to get all the safety features.
March 7 issue of Time magazine has articles on automonous cars.
Happy Motoring!

Well, what's mine is hers, right? She got that brand new 2016 E350 Luxury Sedan a few months back, which she loves. One of the last ones off the line with Surround View. We did a three year lease, which will give the W213 some time to get debugged before it is time for another trade.Originally Posted by El Cid

It is truly sad that auto makers will not allow a customer to order a new vehicle EXACTLY as they want it, if they are willing to wait. So often, very desirable options are only available on the models with the bigger engines, which I find ridiculous. Shoving something like a Panorama Roof down the throats of customers makes zero sense to me. I really like my 2015 S550 sedan, but I truly HATE the frigging Pano roof that is standard on that model and which I was forced to take if I wanted the car. Oh well, we're just old guys and nobody listens to us anymore.
