Mbenz extended warranty
Good morning all,
New here picking up my CPO E350 tomorrow. The car has 14.5k miles on it and the balance of the factory warranty and CPO warranty covers me until November 2019. The dealer offered the Mercedes extended warranty for 2 years for $2895. Now I NEVER usually buy these things, but I also have never owned a car I didn't work on myself. I have built (and am building) race cars and have been working on cars for over 20 years. I realize theres a lot of things I can do but many things only the dealer can do (computer related).
So what do you guys think? Worth it? I will probably keep the car that long (5 years) or more. Anyone with some miles on their car encounter stuff like Head gaskets, transmission or transaxle failures, etc that would make this warranty worth it in 1 shot?

Buying an extended warranty is pretty much like gambling. You never know if you will win.
That said, I think $2895 is a bit high, you can probably get it for significantly less from one of the sources in this forum.

You probably mean an extra 2 years of CPO warranty. The extended warranty goes with the original factory warranty and is only good for 7/100k max, the CPO warranty is unlimited miles and you can buy 2 extra years of CPO coverage. Check the extended warranty forum, there's several people on there that sell at very competitive prices, some sell at $100 over cost. The dealer has a lot of profit in that $2895 quote.

I purchased the 3 year plan when my 4 year expired. So far, MB is in the hole on it - primarily for replacing the wood trim on the dash, etc. and some other things.
Never purchased an extended warranty on any car and not on two I bought since got the MB. However, MB costs too much to repair, too complicated to repair and too prone to things going wrong.
Get it for same reason you get insurance on it - peace of mind.
Would add that get the MBUSA ELW and having a good relationship with a dealer can get those gray area items done under warranty.

OP, keep in mind that you have until the end of the 1st CPO year to get an extension. So if you're on the fence, you can wait, enjoy the car for a while, and see what kind of repair issues you have. The price may rise over time, but I don't recall much of a price difference from year to year.

Its good to know theres a ton of profit built in there, I went on the warranty forum and called 3 out of the 4 (the 4th one has a dead email address so i assume he is gone). No callbacks yet but maybe they can get me a deal.

Get the prices you requested and then compare to others that folks have posted. You can even post the prices you get and ask folks to compare to what they paid and when. That should tell you what you need to know about price increases and penalties for not buying soon enough. Of course, you are set on getting the extension now, then jump on the best deal.
Hard to know if the dealer telling you this is just applying sales pressure. But even if the price goes up, you benefited from the time value of your money and the additional knowledge of how reliable the car is over the 2+ years of coverage you currently have.

So I did get a call back, $1745 for the warranty from one of the vendors. That is totally worth it IMO and such a huge price drop. he said I can do within 30 days of purchase with no penalty.

Wow, that's even more than I expected. Figured you'd do well at $2,200-2,300. Will be interesting to see if others are as competitive.

he didn't ask for the VIN I just told him I'm buying a CPO 2014 E350 and he immediately said "so you want the 2 year cpo extension". I assume I should be fine, he just said he can't sell it to me until I buy the car and its marked sold in the Mercedes Benz computer system.
I'm honestly floored by the price, how could I even say no to that? Its a hell of a deal!

Well you should be ok as long as you are buying it from an mb dealer and it already comes with the one year CPO. They can sell it without, then you can't buy anything.

I got the extra 2 years added to my Certified warranty. I knew they had a lot of profit in it. The price they had on my car was decent to start with and it looks new but I know it's full of expensive whizzy bits.
I told the sales guy the price I wanted the car and warranty for together- taking profit off the car and replacing it with the profit on the warranty is what I basically did in my head. I win- I get 3 years unlimited miles warranty, they get their profit and also win. Seemed decent to me.
Pretty easy deal to make. Sales guy was great overall and didn't make me feel like trying to take every last bit of money out of the deal, and as somebody alluded to I think it does get you some consideration if something gray area comes up.
The 6 year old battery went flat shortly after I bought the car. Normally a battery wouldn't be warrantied, they get old and wear out. I called the sales guy, and pretty painlessly they threw a new battery in for me- dealer accommodation, call it what you want, I call it a new battery for no added cost and me a happy customer.

Now that's a funny video. Think he needs to get rid of the Rover lol. But I'm wondering if there was any type of deduction he had to pay up front for part or labor. I'm curious because I was looking at purchasing a benz from car max but they don't have the car I'm looking for. I also wonder if they can FIND the car I'm looking for and have it shipped to there location. Might be taking a trip this weekend lol

I've read previously on this forum that MB ELW and CPO warranty are mutually exclusive. You can't have both on the same car. If a car is already CPO'd then you can't add MB ELW on it. Not sure if it has changed now. May be you should call MBUSA also to check if that car is eligible for ELW.
The OP should make sure that the warranty sold by the dealer is actually "MB extended limited warranty" and not the third party ones which I believe many dealers like to add on to the car to unsuspecting buyers.

I want to read all of the fine print and compare and contrast the two warranties as I am still in the original warranty period.
My Lexus warranty is pretty legit as a CPO, they have been great to deal with so far. Wondering if I can expect the same comprehensive coverage.

My car was a CPO. I was under the impression that since the new car warranty hasnt expired yet, I could purchase an extension of that new car warranty or the CPO warranty once I am into the CPO warranty period.

So as far as I know its unlimited mileage and covers nearly everything (except wear and tear ie tires, brake pads, oil changes, etc). Its what I'm asking about here. I'm sure some others can chime in with their experiences as to what else may be excluded.

I'm guessing the only way to get the fire print (which is not covered on the web site) would be to get a pamphlet from the dealer directly. Might try that today.
