Polywatch for scratched wood trim - it works!
I tried it, works pretty good. No perfect, but in about 1 minute a mild scratch on a piece of interior wood trim became far less noticeable. Might be gone altogether with another minute's effort.
If you're not familiar, Polywatch, easily available on eBay, is an ultra mild abrasive used to polish mild scratches out of acrylic watch crystals. It's inexpensive as well.

I bought some based on this post to polish fine scratches on my wood trim. I also used it to remove scratches on the gloss black trim around the Command screen. I then used it to remove the strange dullness which had developed on the temples of my RayBan prescription glasses. I had previously tried different types of polishes and nothing worked. Put a tiny dab on a microfiber and rubbed away. They look like new.

I had noticed some scratches on my center section after a bout of vacuum cleaning. I was concerned because I couldn't remove it after cleaning it with dash / interior cleaner solutions. I was dejected as I found that my finger nail was catching at the rough area. I left it alone for several months thinking that I had damaged it. Recently I tried cleaning everything with cotton dipped in plain alcohol and viola..... everything was back to normal. No trace of a scratch at all. It's all back to original sparkle.
I assume at least some of the cases you guys mentioned might be just something sticking on top of it superficially and not real damage. It is worth a try.
