If you have insurance, just get it done at the dealer so they use OEM glass. Others have reported problems with non OEM glass, but some work fine. But why take the chance if it's all covered by insurance and you can get some free donuts while you're there....

+1 on OEM. There are other threads on this subject is your search. You should also check any systems like distronic or lane departure afterwards just in case they needed calibration. Not sure if that is a thing but I recall reading about it on here before.

I need to replace mine soon... has a crack, but it's off to the side and I can ignore it for the most part lol... but with as much money as I pay for this car, OEM is the way to go. Not trying to take chances on repairs (especially when the car's electronics are involved). As for the MB logo on the lower right, I take that off because it bothers me... and doesn't sit well with the tint I put over it

I don't think that bringing the car to your dealers guarantees that you're getting OEM glass, unfortunately.

Ahhh! That stinks! I wonder if you can specifically request it, or if they'll just nod, say "Sure!" and send in Safelite...

^ That is correct. Don't count on OEM glass from the dealer.

Couple of points; Replacing automobile glass is a specialized task, not done ever day. As a consequence, most dealers outsource this kind of work. My dealer uses a mom & pop shop. That said, much of the replacement glass work in my area is done by Safelite.
Regardless of who is doing the replacement, if you want oem glass insist the shop use oem glass. Will most likely cost a bit more.

Absolutely, it's farmed out. No dealer installs windshields. Demand OEM glass and get it in writing. I believe even Safelite offers OEM at a premium.

My dealer farms out glass work to JN Phillips, but the OEM glass is supplied by the dealer. This particular JN Phillips shop works on a lot of Mercedes, they know how to remove Mercedes' trims, install rain sensors or cameras.

I want this guy to replace my windshield! Ha! Everyone here in San Antonio are a bunch of damn honey badgers. They just want to finish it quickly no matter what... I'm sure they skip half of these steps.

Mercedes glass is made by Sekurit brand manufactured by Saint Gobain. If one cannot get the Mercedes glass, an OEM glass made by Sekurit brand manufactured by Saint Gobain without the Mercedes tristar logo is just as good but at half of the cost.
