2,500 road trip in E350 Bluetec
Well just returned from a 2,200 mile road trip in my 13 e350 Bluetec. 1. Never driven a car built for the open road like this one. Nothing but quiet and solid. 2. Pulls like a freight train in the 65-85 mph range. 3. Measured MPG of 39mpg. 4. Two legs of 950 miles each were almost easy to do. Minimal fatigue. Adaptive/cooled driver seat was top notch in the July heat.
Now its time for the next round of maintenance - oil change and all the misc filters. May actually get to the brake fluid change this time as well.

I have done several 700 mile days in my 2011 E-350 Bluetec. That car is built to be put on the highway, set the cruise control, and just burn the miles, especially mine with Luxury and not Sport.
One question: Measured MPG by what method? 39mpg is achievable but rare. Most road trips for me (at 72mph) return a calculated 35-37mpg.
The guess-o-meter on the dashboard usually reads about 3-4mpg high.

Dash gauge read 41.6-43.5 or so. Reset when I added fuel. I do have a racechip that i added about 2 yrs ago which increased the MPG by a few mpg.
A chunk of the driving was relatively flat run up i-95
I have the sport suspension and recently added 19"'s but I have a lot of seat time in HP sports cars - corvettes lotus Porsche etc so I am use to firm rides and most of the roads in the south east are excellent when compared to the Northeast areas.

I had also noticed an improvement when switching over to the 229.52 0w30.
Not sure how impactful reducing un-sprung weight is on MPG but recently converted to 19" Enkei Racing rims which weigh 18lb ea, which is half of the oem rims I took off.
A portion of each leg also had a stretch of 150-180 miles or so of non-interstate roads - 60-65 mph with minimal stop/go.

Not a Bluetec, but our 2014 E350 just took us on family trip just short of 3000 miles, five in the car with luggage, and regular cruising speed was, oh lets just say, quite "spirited." Dash computer said around 29mpg.
A gas car this big, this potent, and this comfortable getting that kind of mileage is, to me, simply impressive!

Took my E550 recently on a much shorter trip, 240 miles, had my system blasting, my exhaust roaring, made me realize how much I love the car. Also managed to average 25 mpg out of the big NA V8, not bad.

I have a 14 250e which I took on a long trip myself. It's about the same mileage around 41 mpg. I know we can better mpg but I just let it rip when the road was clear a number of times.

One additional thing I did a while ago was to add Powerverice Diesel Kleen+Cetane Boost every time I add fuel. Its fairly well documented that increasing the Cetane in Diesel will increase the MPG and that has been my experience as well as keeping the injectors clean.
I was able to get a great deal on a 2.5 gallon jug of the concentrate so I just keep a quart bottle in the trunk and add as needed,

Negative sir you are incorrect.
The E250 is the 7gtronic +, the bluetec 350s from w212 have the old fluid and transmission/computer.
On another note, those tuning chips can often confuse the MPG computer and show incorrect readings. it is often not actually better mpg. use fuelly and real math, and always factor in city/hwy
On a 36 hour turnaround drive to arizona for a business trip, i got 33mpg including traffic leaving the area, driving between 85-115 the whole way and in general climbing 1500 (on the way up that is)
Definitely built for this sort of thing. Except it rides way better off run flats, then you haveto add a spare tire to the trunk and add weight; or you could be SOL on a long road trip...
