Hello all, I have posted an in depth video review of this head unit for the R172 (SLK) on my YouTube channel. The reason I posted this review is because after a month of having the unit I realized that it has a significant amount of problems that other reviewers on YouTube have not mentioned or discussed.
This isn't a horrible unit but it does have it's flaws and limitations so please check this out BEFORE you purchase. I hope this helps!
BTW: There is a newer version of this unit that should be released soon, I imagine it will resolve the problems with this one. Once that one is released I will review that one on m channel as well.

Well thats not corect anywhere...The units been on the market for like 6 months and we had many updates for it during this time as promised. Many thins have been bettered..Not all of course. Its just the bracket for SLK thast is new and that one is for the new screen as well. And trhe new one is the 1025..Not the 9. That has no new one yet.

I had a unit from AliExpress. Had some issues with touch screen. I sent it in return and got the money back. Now I have bought a new display with a supplier from my country. (Norway) Thought it was a lot easier compared to warranty and any update. When I got the package so I was surprised, device has 2 USB interface, Android 6 Quad-core 2GB frame 32GB disk In 1024x600 pixels and DAB +.google map drives like a dream.I have not tried it a lot but there's a video on youtube that I post down here.

What I said was “The mounting brackets and screen for the SLK were just released a little over a month ago and now there's a new one coming out?”, how is this incorrect when it just became available for the SLK in March 2018?

Yes the bracket is just released. Not the screen. Thats whats not corect. Screen is the same for all 9" cars...

I didn't see anything significant from the old screen, except android 6 and 2G RAM. Where are the new features? I still saw KPH. Split screen would be great. Very good though that they are seeking suggestions before finalizing.

Should I just update OEM navi to 2017 or get this unit? How easy is the install? I plan on someone else installing it but don't want to pay same amount of the unit to have it installed. My Lexus GS had a 11" screen so going to this small one will be weird...

Per Chris_the_Swede: The new version should be available in about a week and a half from today but it will be more expensive. These are already too expensive for a simple screen, might just not be cost effective anymore.
CKMCardesign New version in about 2 weeks with Android 6 and bigger HW. Very good review..

Agree totaly.. And damn expensive as well and now they want to raise the damn price. These are very Specific and not massproduced like other normal 2 din units are so more expensive to make though.And the only ones that truly integrates with the car system..It will be 2+32+android6. Android 7 is stopped by overseas google market somehow.. On the other hand most are happy with that old one anyway..

I finally ditched Google Maps and switched to Waze. Wow! what a difference! Google maps is a bloaded buggy app meant for $1000 super-phones. Its even laggy on my 2017 Android phone. The only reason I've kept Google Maps thus far is because i really liked the feature where you search for directions on a PC and it shows up on your phone/nav unit, but that feature hasn't worked reliably on my phone for like a year and never on the nav unit, so no point in keeping G Maps anymore...
Waze is soooooo much snappier, everything happens in 1/4 of the time compared to GMaps, and navigation is so much simpler, enter in address and it navigates, versus GMaps you tap the address bar, freezes, enter in address, freezes, select location, freezes, brings up directions instead of starting navigation, tap direction, freezes, tap navigate, freezes... you get the idea...
You can't uninstall google maps, only the updated for it, but if you go into the Android settings app menu, you can disable it so the icons disappear from the app drawer at least

Video is up for the new unit. Not sure if its worth upgrading yet. Curious to know if you have to change out the existing wiring harness if you are upgrading from the old unit.
