I finally ditched Google Maps and switched to Waze. Wow! what a difference! Google maps is a bloaded buggy app meant for $1000 super-phones. Its even laggy on my 2017 Android phone. The only reason I've kept Google Maps thus far is because i really liked the feature where you search for directions on a PC and it shows up on your phone/nav unit, but that feature hasn't worked reliably on my phone for like a year and never on the nav unit, so no point in keeping G Maps anymore...
Waze is soooooo much snappier, everything happens in 1/4 of the time compared to GMaps, and navigation is so much simpler, enter in address and it navigates, versus GMaps you tap the address bar, freezes, enter in address, freezes, select location, freezes, brings up directions instead of starting navigation, tap direction, freezes, tap navigate, freezes... you get the idea...
You can't uninstall google maps, only the updated for it, but if you go into the Android settings app menu, you can disable it so the icons disappear from the app drawer at least

Yes it is, Had one from Aliexpress first but I delivered it back.Bought this from a store in Norway.They are incredibly good with support and updates.user manual and update is open to everyone on the home page.Believe me or not but my device has 2gb Ram and 32gb flash, usb hub for 4 usb devices and android 6. There are only screens and cables and usb Dab.

If we can't upgrade this beyond Android 6, that might be a dealbreaker. No split screen, and the screen will eventually become obsolete as new apps will eventually come out that wont support an older version of android

I decided to just update the MB maps instead of getting this unit. I feel like I won't utilize all it's features and local shop quoted me $530 to install it... Project will cost me over $1,000. Unless someone in the Charlotte area is willing to help install!

Come on! You don't need anyone to install this for you, just watch the videos and save yourself money if you decide to get it.

There are how to videos on YouTube to show you how to install these units. It's really not that hard. I'm waiting for the upgraded version with android 7 before I buy.

There is no export embargo on the Android (7) Nougat open source code (as in the open project that everyone bar Google's approved suppliers use). There may be other reasons why they are choosing not to create a version based on that version of the open source software, but its nothing to do with an export restrictions.

I have a cousin in schenzen china .. hes there for a month ..I know alot of these units come from there..well atleast the ones from eBay ...I'm gonna see if he can track a unit down for me

I talked to some of the sellers around my area but they doesn't show much interest, so just kind of wondering if there's anyone here trying to fit this into a W211/W219.
Coming from a BMW background (the W219 is actually my first Mercedes), I kinda have the perception that everything can be retrofitted. Like an NBT Evo in a E90. It just wasn't meant to be there. They cut the dashboard to make space for it.

Thanks for the recommendation. I knew that there are two options for the W211, one with buttons, and one with full screen like this.
None of them can be compared to the W212 head unit though. It just exudes an air of modernity.
The connection of the two systems shows that they use different cables, one with NTG 1's standard, the other with NTG 4's. So it's a really long shot to be honest.
