How to reprogram light and rain sensor
Hi I have a E550 W212 2010 , I am experience a problem with the light and rain sensor , I bought a new sensor but when I install it control the wipers but not the auto light it say auto lamp function inoperative. It that require a reprogram to the sensor. Please if some one know a little help please thanks

Has to be done by the stealership AFAIK. Its a complicated process that requires coding and some dealerships flat out refuse to do it unless you buy the sensor from them.

What issue is that you're having?
"K.I.S.S." ... if you are interested to bypass a $1,500 tab, there's a great chance you can refurb this solderless module yourself under 30mn.
First I suggest you do a quick "battery reboot" (float + disconnect) to restore more reliable SAM activities.

Don't quite understand what you are suggesting. What is the $1,500 tab for?
I bought a new light/rain sensor from the dealer for $77. My dealer charges $180/ hour----I can't imagine them taking almost 8 hours of labor
to reprogram the unit.
Please clear this up.

A 2009 C204 owner replaces his light sensor and gets a shop to code it for $100.
Take that to the dealer and ask for "price match". My dealer used to match oil changes.

What is this "float+disconnect?" My battery is VERY heavy and would be very difficult to float. Please explain the procedure so that I can try this on my E350. I just replaced the Light Sensor module and it does not seem to be working, aside from giving me this message: Auto LampFunction Inoperative. Have tried the reset procedures which do nothing.

Batt float...
Floating is the very last stage of battery charging done @ 12.6V.
This ensures a complete charge. I happen to use an automatic CTEK smart charger. Other brands can reach this step.
Disconnecting is done by removing (-) side terminal to chassis. Stay away from the (+) side!
Rebooting is what happen to the 40+ computers after reconnecting the battery power to the car.
