Service plans

My car is due for a service soon. It’s finished four years and therefore finished my four year maintenance plan. I read somewhere in the past about getting a package of services and the optimal time to do that. Can’t remember where and where though. Can someone provide a link or info on that please. Thanks.

General advice is to buy a 3 pack before your next series of B/A/B services with one or more of those intervals including plugs and ATF services. Since maintenance requirements vary by model year, you've got to consult the manual for your model year. In my case, I got the 3 pack to cover my 60/70/80 B/A/B intervals which includes plugs due at 60k and ATF and engine filters due at 80k. I could have bought another PPM pack before I hit 80k miles but it wasn't worth it as no plugs or ATF due for me until 120k.

A 4 pack may not be worth the extra cost if that 4th service is just an A service. For those, I wait for the coupons that come out a few times a year.

Search for a Euro shop, or better yet a specialized MB indy shop to service your car.

You can also get them discounted in the extended warranty subforum. You can only buy the maintenance packages when the car has less than 80k.

If I read it right, it sounds like the next service is a 50k one which would be an A service. As others mentioned, either wait for a decent MB coupon or check other dealers in the area for their service coupons and just pay for a regular Service A. Around here $250 when there's a $50 off coupon service coupon from the dealer.

I find this A/B service business nothing but a rip off. I recently had B service done and all they did was change engine oil/filter, cabin filter, and air filter, plus check my brakes. They wanted $499, but luckily I found a competitors coupon for $100 off and they honored it. Had I known that was all that was needed, I'd have done it myself; live and learn.

Next 10K miles, I will need spark plugs and tranny service!

My local Merc stealer sells their own service packages, but I don’t think they do as much as what they call the overly protective factory maintenance schedule. For example, I recall the SA told me that replacing the brake fluid every other year is unnecessary. It’s a classic trade-off argument - spend less, get less.

If I remember to update this thread after one or both of my A-B services from the stealer to their maint schedule and maybe not th factory schedule, I’ll tell you wat they did / not did.

All in all, I still think it’s a cost-savings.

My car has around 29k miles at present. So I guess this is 30 K service now and the next one will be 40 K.

Holy crap. I just checked my maintenance contract and it states 4year 40k miles, but somehow lists the expiration date as early 2019. That is almost 5 years (I bought the car and maintenance plan in beginning of 2014). I think may be someone screwed up (or does everyone’s plan list the expiration date as one year later?). So do I have a case to get this service included in the plan?

It sounded like you got the service. It's basically every 10k or 1 year. So if you got all 4, then I don't know what you're asking about. If you just had 3 and this is the 4th one coming up, then it should be covered under the plan.

Just an update guys. I got the A3 service done. The mileage was actually 31000. The receipt states something like "last and final 40K service" was done. And the best part, they honored my maintenance plan and did it for free. Actually this is my fifth service under the plan. I guess what helped matters could have been my car's low mileage and the erroneous expiration date of "2019" on the service plan.
Per service manual the 4 year/40k service should be a "B" service (?B4), but, since I already had that in beginning of 2018, the message flashed on screen was A3 service. Guess I'm happy now.
