Which Main Battery to get?

Hi own a 2014 E350 with 115,000KM. looks like it needs a new main battery as the eco start stop has stopped working. i’m looking at an interstate battery and a bosch s5 battery. i don’t know which one is capable of auto start stop use. Thoughts? or brands to try? thanks.

Bosch batteries sold at PepBoys seems to be long-time winner, although occasionally Champion batteries do have good coupons.
When I bought my first "ECO" car it come with wet battery, so when 2nd car needed new one as well, I bought wet Bosch for about $120. so 2 years on 1 and less than a year on 2nd wet battery with regenerative charging.
AGM batteries would be better if you plan to drive the car upside down, but that basically is the only advantage for much more money.
Than I hear AGM batteries usually fail within 3 years, when I have 96 months warranty on Bosch.
For aux battery I went to FCP as for few bucks more than competition - they offer lifetime warranty on MB batteries. I only hope FCP will be still in business when the small battery fails.

Eco Start/Stop is maintained by the Auxiliary battery in the trunk and not the main battery.

I disagree. I thought the same until the dealer replaced my main battery to get the ECO working again.

ECO restart has a dozen parameters that need to be meet for the feature to be activated.
When I did not see clear document wchich battery operate the ECO restarts, fact is that when main battery, or airmatic compressor will not hold the parameters, the feature will not engage.
Too many unknowns to speculate.

It could be either. That's why the dealer tests batteries before replacing them. It's really the only way to be sure.

Installed the battery

one thing is the battery drain tube. where does it go? the tube is really short. got a battery from ExoParts and was around $350 CAD, genuine mercedes battery. and ECO Mode works! problem solved. Did not need to attach any battery tender, retained all memory i believe. will update later. but everything was easy!

Even considering it makes 260 US dollars, I still say OUCH.
Did you still pay tax on the top of it?

eco mode from a cold start doesn’t turn on immediately, which is understandable. but after 5-10 min drive and restarting the car, eco mode turns on right away. is it possible to reset eco mode?

I am trying to make sense how ECO works and what's keeping it off, but it makes no logic sense.
I drive in 100+F, so doesn't take long for engine warm-up.
The ECO will work 1 and 2 minutes after start, but will quite for minutes 10-30, to stop the engine again after about 1/2 hr.
That is on car with DPF delete, so I wonder if ECU keeps on trying to get regeneration going.
I think I will start driving with scanner plug-in and monitor what exactly is going on.

Keep in mind that if it's hot outside, the climate control will suppress ECO stop to keep the AC compressor running. You can check if this is happening by turning your climate control temp way up.

+1.

They install huge 750 - 900 CCA batteries in cars and then would have the Eco Start cranking from the tiny AUX battery!!!???!!!

I bought a new battery for the trunk, charged both that and the main big under hood battery, which was recently replaced, and eco still doesn't work. I even turn off the AC before the stop to load shed and see if it will work. I know I should count my blessings that the silly system doesn't work, but I like things to work. I wonder if my no name aftermarket battery doesn't have enough sack to do the job. It starts the car and spins it like a top.

try resetting the transmission. odd but after doing this even with a not to good of a battery, eco mode for me at least always worked for a little while. but long term, it sounds like one of your parameters aren’t being met. possible faulty interior temperature sensor, or? who knows. maybe the alternator. there’s to many variables.

The main battery powers the starter, of course. But there a lot of electronics involved in Eco stop and start, and those controllers are powered by the aux battery. (One of the many parameters that the Eco stop/start computer monitors is the main battery's voltage.) That's why both batteries have to be in good condition.
