A few pics and a few questions...
Happy to be joining the W212 club! Yesterday I picked up a platinum certified 2016 E350 with 14,1xx miles on it. Premium package, sport package, keyless go. I'm coming from an '03 c230k. Always toyed with the idea of getting something a little bigger - i.e. an E class. I was also looking for a normally asperated power plant, rear wheel drive, spring suspension. I had the c230 for 15+ years and was looking for something reliable (Mercedes reliable, not a Toyota or Honda). This car fit the bill. But I do wish it had the blind spot aid. And I kinda miss the Bi-Xenon headlights on the W203. Here are some pics - nothing special, I've seen quite a few up for grabs with the same color combo and features:

Now for some questions...
Twice today while driving, once in the morning and once again this evening, with no one in front or behind me I heard a 'beep beep' - as in two quick beeps. The second time I thought I caught a red triangle flash between the fuel and temperature gauges. I'm wondering if this was the collision prevention assist going off and if there isn't something wrong with it? Is there a log of this I can access? As I said - driving down a straight level road with no one around me, front or rear
This car seems to run with the temperature gauge right at 90 degrees Celsius, which puts the needle above horizontal. Is this the normal operating temperature?
I've already read there is no way to set the car so that ECO (start/stop of engine at a stop sign or stop light) will stay off. Anybody using the Mid City Engineering device to keep it off?
I also noticed that if I put the car in sport mode it will revert to economy mode when I start it back up again?
The tray cover over the cup holders and lighter/ash tray... Is this supposed to close all the way by itself? Mine sticks half way over the cup holders - I have to finish closing it by hand.

Welcome and congrats on your purchase of your E350. In your vehicle there should be a owner's manual. It's usually located on your glove box, on the back pocket of your front seats, or on the trunk.
It should look similar to this:
Alternatively, you can check out Mercedes-Benz website at: https://www.mbusa.com/en/owners/manuals

90-92c is normal. Console door has a stop to cover the ash area. Push it all the way forward from the ash stop and release. It should then close completely
and stop spinning the tires causing a traction alarm. Lol

The lights above the intersection have all manner of sensors and function interrupters (for emergency vehicles), etc. So I've assumed for now that my car senses one of these signals and is throwing the beep. Bottom line, if over time you can predict the beep, it's probably not a problem, per se.
As for the Stop/Start feature, I've placed a small sticker on the seatbelt assembly to the left of my driver's seat. It reminds me to turn ECO Stop/Start off when I fasten my belt.
Handsome car. Enjoy.

Congratulations on your new acquisition and welcome to the W212 family!
To answer a couple of your questions :
The beeping can be the collision prevention system or possibly it can also be the attention assist - mine has done this a couple of times and to be honest, I'm not sure what the real reason for the beep was.
Regarding the Mid City Engineering module, I bought it and returned it when I found a software solution to keep Eco off (remember last setting). It is also available for S mode. There's a thread about it but I think the thread topic is CarPlay or Android Auto
The Mid City Engineering solution is a physical button that needs to be wired in to the canbus system and IMHO, quite expensive for what it is

Worried now... This morning I got in the car, started it up and got a message on the dash "Pre-Safe Inoperative See Owners Manual". I have 15 months of warranty but was hoping to only use it once or twice for little things like the emergency brake not popping up all the way... What should I be looking for here. I will read the manual, but also looking for input/advice from the forum.
How can I tell if I have blind spot assist? I don't see it on the build sheet (dealer gave me a print out - I asked for the 'card' that looked like the window sticker the salesman referenced when we were on the test drive but they wouldn't give it to me, just the printout).

Post your VIN and or go to www.datamb.com to pull all of your options. I cannot believe you don't have Blind spot detection. That is basic.
Your pre-safe warning is a low battery charge more than likely. It is very common for assist services to go off-line when the battery is low. No big deal; I'm sure the car has been sitting for awhile.
Driving it will restore the battery and the assist service.

Thanks for the VIN decoder link KEY08. No blind spot assist listed.
Yep, even the low end rental cars I'm given for work have the blind spot assist these days. One would think it would be standard on the E Class. Reading the build sheet on fallen's E550 I see it is an expensive feature. Was hoping it would be standard.
On the dealer paperwork the model is referred to as a E350W. Is that correct? I've never seen the 'W' on the end.

Oh for the warranty, you could check the extended warranty subforum and pick up an extra two years of CPO coverage if you want. Usually it's not that bad a deal. You could also price a two pack maintenance package, you won't need it for a while, but it's only a good deal when the spark plugs and transmission fluid are due and those are included in the maintenance package, but the dealers tend to charge separately for them.
You didn't mention the vin or show the front of the car, but the bixenons got replaced with the lighting package and that had the auto high beams and the active curve illumination. Too bad they got rid of the headlamp washers when they got rid of bixenons. Lighting package isn't that common though, almost as hard to find as the driver's assistance package.
Oh yeah the other way eco stops will stop working is if the aux battery goes bad. But then you get a warning about a bad aux battery. Those seem to go in less than 4 years and they get replaced under the new car warranty. Not sure if CPO covers it. I just wonder if they just don't get charged up enough and you can just put a charger on it to maybe extend it's life.

W is the universal MB notation for "Wagen"/Car/Sedan... been that way for decades. You have a W212, right.

My 2001 Infiniti QX4 came standard with xenons, but somehow halogen was the default for these. Who knows.

The two beeps come from the collision assist warning. They’re just false positives. I get it once in awhile, such as driving down the road and passing by a big road sign, even though it’s not in my path sometimes it triggers the warning. It does that sometimes passing by a stationery car too close. The collision assist did save me numerous times though! Brake assist kicks in if you don’t brake hard enough while collision assist is activated.

mtnman82 was saying he was surprised that blind spot detection wasn't standard equipment. I was agreeing by saying it's pretty sad that halogens were standard equipment on these cars, when xenon has been standard on other cars for quite a while. Their choices of what equipment was standard and optional is puzzling sometimes.

FYI, here's the link to the thread on Android Auto. Look for the ebay seller that offers the software update. Even if you're not interested in Android Auto, he offers a number of software solutions, including Eco off and S mode setting

As for your question on the cover over the center console cup holders -- do you mean "Is the stop at the half-way point normal?" or does your cover close half way from the center stop to full closed?
From day 1, my center console has dragged to a stop, half way from the center stop to full closed. Three trips to two different dealers and I still have to drag the &$%&$ thing closed myself.
Oh, well. . .

The way it was explained to me is that the CPO warranty extends the 4 year/50K mile warranty by a year, and that everything is covered same as the original warranty. I will have to ask about the extended warranty to see if it's still available after I walked out the door. Any idea on what that will cost?
Cover over the cup holders: yep, I have to drag it closed myself. I can tell and have used the half way stop point to only open the cup holders. Also bummed the parking brake is sticking - having to use my foot to fully release. Hoping they will take care of me on my first visit for service.
Dealer paperwork clearly states in multiple places E350W. So they typed this incorrectly? Hope it doesn't matter in the long run...

I called my sales guy about the PRE-SAFE Inoperative and he said it's the sensitivity setting, to set it to Standard not Sensitive. It was on Standard. I sent him a text with picture of the display and asked for a service manager contact but haven't heard back from him.
No insight on the PRE-SAFE Inoperative message? Not much to go on in the owner's manual. I do see a number of threads on the subject when I search the forum. Any known/proven fixes? It was ~200 mile drive home on Sunday, so plenty of time to charge the battery and might explain why I didn't get the message on Monday. It popped up when I started her up this morning to drive to work, then again when I went out to lunch, but didn't pop up when I came back from lunch.
Any idea on coverage and cost for an extended warranty? I was under the impression I couldn't get the full 'as new' warranty on a pre-owned vehicle and that's what I would want if the cost is within reason...

If you log onto the Mercedes-Me app and input your car details, the next time you log-in it will show E350W.
My 2001 C320 is also shown as a C320W.
My guess is that the 550s are E550W, as well.

As for the center console, that's the spring in the back of the console. You could probably take it apart and wind it up one more. Mine closes perfectly after taking it apart and fixing it. Here's a video on how to take it apart.
As for the extended warranty, don't confuse the two. The extended warranty is what you get after the original warranty expires. The CPO warranty is a little different than the extended warranty but somewhat similar in coverage. Extended and CPO are both different from the factory warranty. The factory warranty is way better of course. It will cover cosmetic defects like the faded wood and ripped seat. Neither CPO or extended will cover those. Also things like the battery too. You just need to read the warranty to see what it actually covers. It would be best to get the car checked out by the dealer before the factory warranty expires and specifically ask them to point out any problems. I seem to recall reading that at one point MB dealers were told specifically not to mention problems they noticed unless the customer brought it up. Check for faded wood by opening the doors and checking to see that the wood color hidden by the door matches the rest of the trim. The extra two years of CPO seems to vary in price from vendor to vendor, just read the treads in the forum, it's in the 2-3k range. Usually the vendors in the subforum are way cheaper than whatever the local dealers quote.

^excellent recap. You will have right up until the day that your current CPO expires to purchase an additional 1 year or 2. Shop around for prices as the price is totally negotiable

Really bummed about this warranty thing - I asked and was told it was the same as the original warranty. I have until May on the original, so I guess I'd better take advantage of it...
Would something like the PRE-SAFE Inoperative be covered under CPO warranty?
What is 'Keyless Go Control Code'? Is this a code I need to ensure I have from the dealer, just in case? If for some reason I want/need to use the key, do I just pull out the keyless go button and then put it back in when I want to use it again, or is there more to it?
