I would not keep an E-class for that amount of usage. We seriously toyed with the idea of adding a Smart ForTwo Electric Drive to go with our E350 and MX-5, but with the MX-5 barely cracking 9,000 miles a year of use and the E350 having the unlimited mileage CPO warranty.. seemed not worth the cost. But if I drove very little, that's what I'd probably have. So much fun.

But I do drive during the day.... SO can I keep my car now?
Man tough crowd of owners....

And everyone can drive a prius....

but no one chose to answer my question...

I have been driving with all possible headlights going back to sealed bulbs... and well never complained... just marvel as technology gets better.
Fancy lights do not make me buy a new car... but I will compare options and features and value to me...

Just like I cannot understand how anyone wants the stupid ECO button that shuts your engine off at redlights.
hate that thing and want to slap the person who came up with that idea..
but others may like it a whole bunch.

SO:
How many night time hours of driving do YOU need to drive to make this worth it?
Might be 1 min. and that is fine.

but I have to guess someone out there who dropped 5 bills kinda regrets it when the wife finds out and gets annoyed by the dancing lights and asks you to turn it off because she is getting head ache... or similar.

My 2012 E-Class has 29k miles, I've had it for 7 plus years. I drive it when the wife has the 13 E-class out. I am a distillation and fermentation engineer so don't have to drive much, usually fly to work now and I'm winding down work to part-time anyways, My 93 had 61k at 12 years old and my 2003 had 63k when wrecked by golf cart at 12 years old, I like having a nice car for when I do go out. I hate the eco button too, my son has it in his Mercedes and I drive it when we go visit him in Manhattan. It's one of the reasons I bought a leftover 13 instead of a 14, it kept turning off on the test drive and my wife said it was stupid, I agree.

Yeah I know but again a little pricey for me.
And yeah I am a cheapskate and I drive a MB - GO figure huh.
I got one helluva deal I tell ya.

But I can remember to turn the stupid feature off by pressing button when I put my seatbelt on.

PLus I have my "CO-PILOT" trained to double check it is off before pulling away as it scares her at red lights when the engine cuts off.

Well for now until I find this feature cheaper I cannot justify it...
PLus I need a new spa light and man them dayum things are pricey too. $500 installed... stupid LED supposed to last longer 10 years .. yeah right... cannot tell you how many overpriced LED lights I have had to replace at 2-3 year mark like old school bulbs...

Off the soap box back to your thread...

If I was in your situation with driving very little at night I probably wouldn't consider the ILS feature. Unless the night driving you do is on dark unlit roads where you could take advantage of the features. Also I never understood why so many people dislike the ECO feature. Mine is seamless, if you weren't aware my car had the feature you would likely never notice it.

I live in deep south very hot...
so when engine cuts off you know cause the AC stops cooling pretty quick...
Fan still blows and may have a bit of residual cooling but not here

Wife starts nagging cause she is getting hot and well we just hate it...

PLus the way I figure it the oil is not pumping no more so turbos are sinning down more then they need to without oil pressure.... which reduces their life.
Also starting engines reduce engine life since gain oil drains down...

Over all it is just not good for engine to keep turning off and then some time later start back up again... then repeat many many more times then needed....

Too me just a dumb way to tell peeps they are getting better MPG...
when they could just drive better or get a prius.

I did read they do install a more robust starter and thank the lord for that...

Being from the PNW I never thought of the weather aspect. I rarely use my AC. Being a E350 owner no need to worry about turbos either. Although my wife's GLE 400 has them.

Mercedes has engineered the car for the huge increase in engine starts/stops. Also a 350 with no turbos here, and I also live in the south - GA. My car does not shut off if the cabin temperature hasn’t been reached. If the cabin is already cool, the engine will shut off. But as soon as the inside temp rises some the engine starts back up. I really like it cold and have never noticed the car stay shut down to the point it got warm inside. Same was true for my 2014 C350 with the same system. Worked fine.

As for the lights, I drive about 50 miles a day for work. I live in a rural area. For a significant part of the year it is dark when I drive to work and also dark when I drive home. So good lighting is important and while the LED lights delivered as they were stock, this was definitely worth it to me.

This is my situation as well, about 20 miles each way to work and from October till March complete darkness to and from work usually accompanied with a lot of rain.

I don't know how you deal with the ****ty *** wipers with all that rain you deal with. Only an aftermarket windshield worked to resolve the noise and chattering of the wipers, a problem I have chased before in my W204. And a problem every loaner I have driven since 2014 has suffered from. No amount of adjusting angles, different blades, clay bar, alcohol, polishing.. nothing ever worked. Since the new windshield was installed, though.. all is well. Must be the glass.

Never a problem with my wipers, as smooth and quiet as can be.

Anyone else have any updates on installing this? Particularly with pre-facelift cars?

I have taken videos with this, but I had very bad luck recording.

On one the camera was out of focus, on another (trying a small camera with gimbal) it looked like I was recording with a potato camera, on another the camera mount was shaking too much. With my gimbal, my good camera, and the AF locked it looks awesome, but the setup is too big. Plus I can only do night time runs, but my car being muffler less wakes up the whole neighborhood.

Can I recommend ILS on Pre-facelifts? Yeah I can, it works. But only if you drive at night, drive on dark roads, and drive on highways/interstates with low lighting.
The active curve illumination it's a bit more aggressive it turns with the steering wheel a bit tighter and the lighting is wider but closer to car.

I copied this video hidden on Daimler website on my channel.

Received my lighting module on July 13th, installed that evening. A great addition to an already great car. My 1st morning drive to work with the full ILS lighting system with my brights on for the whole 18 mile drive. I'll likely purchase it for my wife's GLE as well. Now just need my turn signal to be extended to 5 flashes. Has anyone been able to have that done?

Your turn signal question is timely. I just sold Subaru STI and there is a company that sells a flasher relay replacement called TapTurn that enables extended flashes, and also 'wig-wags and a number of other 'tricks'. I liked to wig-wags so my kids could find me in a sea of parents picking up kids, esp at night. Plus, the Subaru didn't come with any quick flash to change lanes....I didn't find any solutions for the Merc.

If I remember correctly MBhouse is in Toronto, while I'm in Washington state and I don't have access to equipment to do remotely.

Yes.. until MBhouse can do this remotely, they're not useful to any of us not in Toronto.

Glad you're as impressed with it as I am.

I too ordered ILS unlock and a few other features from Vladimir.

Hopefully, in a week or two, I will be able to install them successfully.

Finally got around to installing the ILS package from the module Vlad sent over.

Took my car out for a spin and finally understood what you meant by the dancing lights
I definitely love how it blocks the car in front but lights up everything else. Also, it stays on headlight for the oncoming traffic but shields them from the glare.

I agree, with ILS it is totally a different ball game, too bad the DOT in the US did not pass this on MB.

While it was expensive, I am sure in the long run, with night driving it will pay itself several times over.

Yes, I am still enjoying mine every time I drive at night. I don't know how I'll go back to anything else.
