Weird noise when turning the steering wheel
There is a weird noise whenever I turn the steering wheel. It does not seem to be specifically coming from the suspension, since it comes from both sides and can be heard in the engine bay of the car. Below is a video of the 'knocking' sound. Any suggestions before I bring it to my mechanic?
The car is a 2013 E350 4Matic with ~93k miles (single owner). Everything done at dealer except for aftermarket Bilstein Struts.
Thanks for any suggestions!

What noise? Lol
its distinctive enough that I’m sure someone will know exactly what that is. Our steering assist is electric so that’s not a steering pump. I have no clue but it’s no bueno

Ahh, ok, so there is no power steering fluid in our car? Maybe its the steering box?

It could be the steering rack on the electric assist, I guess.
Did you receive a notice for the steering bolt replacement campaign?

I would agree with Key, sounds like the electric steering box has some rusted out bolts and has moved, wow. Interesting your not in a rust belt state either. Do the wheels still turn left and right?

Yes, I don't have a noise, yet. but the bolts that hold th steering box in place are very rusty on my 13 which I drive in the snow/winter. my 12 has 29k and has never been out in the salt, those bolts are much better but I will go in for the service campaign this summer, I will do the 13 soon soon.

I posted the campaign thread in post #4. The campaign number is in there. It is not a recall. If your car VIN is in the campaign, the fix is free. I got the campaign letter in the mail and had the bolts replaced and front alignment corrected on MB’s dime.

Wow. I can't believe your wife helps you with this. Mrs. MellonC does not cooperate anything car or mechanical related. Not even just to hold/turn the steering wheel.
BTW. My car has a similar sound but it stops after two clicks. I haven't taken it in.
