Oil filter - 2761800009 or 2781800009???

Arggghhhh! This should not be hard. I'm trying to buy an oil filter for my 2013 E350 and keep seeing warnings to be sure to get the right filter -- it could be part number 2761800009 - or - 2781800009. I specified everything requested and I'm still seeing it. Help! How do I tell which to get?

Model D24 212.288 E 350 4MATIC

The first three numbers of the part number represent what engine the oil filter is for. It’s the 276 part number because of the 276; you have the M276 engine. M278 is the V8 variant

Also, you could pull the one in your engine bay, as they are so visually different.

I have the V8 engine in my 2012 E550 (M278 engine). It has the 2761800009 filter. So, you can't go by engine size in 2012 to figure out which filter to buy. I have photographic proof if anyone doubts. You can unscrew the filter housing and check. It won't leak oil everywhere. I know because I did that. As you lift it out, it will be obvious which one you need. Just torque it back to 25NM and go order it.

I use a Mann HU 7025z filter in my 2012 M278 E550, so I'm not sure about the MB part number. But, as no_mulligan indicates, my filter looks like the 2761800009 filter.

And, yup, it's easy enough to remove the cap and double check what your filter looks like.

That 278 part number you posted a pic of does not look right for any W212. The 278 and 276 engines are very closely related and should use the same filter.

I recommend FCPEuro. They can point you in the right direction and also sell oil change kits for these cars that will come with everything you need.
