Did Mercedes fix the Oil in Engine Harness for 2016 MY

Hi everyone,

I’m a current Lexus Gs350 owner looking to buy a low mileage 2016 E350. I have concluded that this will be a reliable car as the kinks in the W212 have been worked out for 2016. However, I read about the oil in engine harness problem for the M276 engine. This is concerning as I intend to put close to 100-150 miles a day on this vehicle and I don’t want to have any costly repairs. Did Mercedes use updated parts for MY 2016 and resolve this issue or is it still prevalent?

It’s not clear. To my knowledge no one in this site has conclusively identified affected years.

I've not read of a 2016 with this issue, but you can purchase and install harnesses that will prevent this from ever being an issue. I am not sure how widespread this is at all, either. The M276 was used in many, many models over many years and while we get reports of it here and there, we're not overran by it.

That said, buy the harnesses for $44 and don't worry about it. The W212, particularly the 2015-2016s, are extremely reliable for any German luxury car.

Is it relatively easy to install? I haven’t purchased the vehicle, so before I buy I would hope the dealer would do this for free but they probably aren’t going to give crap about my concern. Do you have the part numbers?

You're correct the dealer is not going to care. I installed them myself on my C230 but I have not yet installed them on my E350, though I do have them in my closet and plan on it as a cheap insurance policy.

Part # 2711500156 from FCPEuro

When you do a prepurchase inspection, open the two intake camshaft electromagnet connectors and use a bright flashlight to check inside for signs of oil.

The other 6 connectors (4 cam position sensors and 2 cam electromagnets) require varying amounts of disassembly to access.

Looking at this photo I am not sure I can even identify where to install the pigtails.

@LILBENZ230 Can you identify the 4 black plastic round electromagnets in the photo? On the front of the engine, on the front end of each cylinder head. Below the small screws with blue paint dabbed on them.

This place is a joke.
No, they haven't fixed this for about 17 years. MB is also putting those stupid check valves on the sunroof drains on the 213 E-class. Yep, I've already seen a couple with water damage under the carpets, just like the 204 chassis. As a matter of fact, those check valves are 204 part numbers. Absolutely stupid.
