My mate is upgrading the stock speakers in his W222 S-Class and as the speakers in my 2010 W212 are shot, wondering if I can use his cast offs in the E Class? Obviously a speaker is a speaker, but the fitment in the enclosures etc - if anyon has any experience?

'a speaker is a speaker' <= false presumption, there's a huge range in speakers even in a given size. power handling, impedance, frequency response, optimal enclosure size based on cone excursion and frequency range, etc etc etc.
does his 222 have the same sort of sound system your 212 has ? HK Logic7 or something? if yes, then they might fit, but an S class might have larger speakers in key places.

Before connecting your replacement speakers...
TEST SPK OUTPUT:
put a dummy load (10w 8ohms resistor) on the amplifier output and measure if you have ANY DC VOLTAGE leaking through. This Amp problem will fry any speaker in a flash, new or old alike.

and, when you have the old speaker disconnected, check it with an ohm meter, should read a low single digit Ohms value. if its open circuit, its fried. I have a older car stereo in a wooden box with a 12V battery (I call it the boombox, heh), I'd hook the old speaker up to that, and carefully turn it up from the lowest volume setting, see if you hear anything out of the old speaker.

for real, this is my 'boom box'. it has a 12V 20AH battery, and several PP30 powerpole connectors, so it can be used as an aux 12V power source, and/or it can be solar charged with my Renogy 100W 'solar suitcase' older pioneer CD/stereo. speaker jacks are guitar plugs.

she is a beauty... multi-purpose media center and jump starter 👏
It reminds me of the first amplifier I built as a teen... I used a cardbox, great access from the top.

actually? heh. this is a card box
but its only wired and fused for 30A max, so no jumpstarting. I have a Noco 1000A lithium jumpstart pack.
impressive I must say...now that we have completely hijacked this thread.
I raise you a coffee table that I build a few years ago. made from general store hat display drawers; I had to buy the wall of 16 units.

purdy! i suck at woodworking, I didn't make that box, its an old desktop card file my wife brought home from the thrift store and I purloined because it was the perfect size.
