Need assistance on e350 power loss
Got a 2014 e350 with 70,000 miles. I’ve had the auxiliary battery malfunction for about three weeks. Which I don’t mind because I turn off the eco start stop anyways.
Last night while trying to merge onto a highway, all power to my car shut off for a split second and then the car was on again like nothing happened. The car shutoff, rpms dropped, mph dropped, no power steering, no radio, and a bunch of safety features were turned off. A split second later, the car was working again. No lights on dash, no error messages, Didn’t have to turn it on or pull over. Just off and on in under a second.
Has anyone had this problem before or know where to start looking??

It is particular how power glitched out and back in without crashing the main computers.... apparently only R-SAM, that could be courtesy of Prefuse K2 or a network crash.
The really odd part is loosing steering, I thought it was off limits and kept more robust directly by F-SAM.
I believe your AUX and Consumers getting off-loaded while driving are caused by extreme DEEP DISCHARGE voltage ⚡ in the 8 to 11V ballpark.
Keep an eye on your Voltage/Amps while driving, that's what I do with MY'14.
Hope this helps keep you on the road.
+++++ Which is 1st: "Chicken or the Egg"...
1- Are the CAN glitches causing the low voltage -or
2- Is the low voltage causing CAN gliches ?
I answer #1.

1 - Check the codes
2 - Check the main battery as in
Disconnect the battery and notice if the cables were properly adjusted, i.e. tight
Terminals are clean
Voltage, when disconnected, should be @12.6V->12.8V. Usually, @12.3/4V if connected to the car and the door open (I think it knows if the hood is open and the computers are awake)
If you can test the health of the battery, it would help as well.
3 - If the above does not show anything off, I will monitor the cluster voltage/current while driving to see any abnormal charging patterns such as complete discharge, i.e. <12VTerminals are clean

4 - As much as I dislike the START/STOP ECO feature, I would check in the trunk everything is OK as in (2) above with the AUX battery. If the AUX battery does not pass the health test (very likely), it is best to change it just to prevent issues.
Please keep us up to date on your progress. Mine is also @75K, so interested as well.
There are a few very detailed threads on the charging system/electrical components by CaliBenzDriver and S Prihadi, but you may want to go one step at a time to isolate which system is the problem first.

Jonga,
Such intermittent problem and if it stay intermittent without you being able to trigger the fault.... is not so easy to trace if you are not "fluent" with DC electric.
It can be mechanical, such as a simple bad connection/contact somewhere on cable terminal/lug..........
or
it could be electro-mechanical where certain relay/s contact point developed intermittent bad contact...be it from semi burnt out contact of coil magnetism semi-failure
or
electronic glitch such as CAN-BUS or certain hardware/modules.
I am just preparing you to not expect simple magic answer.
I have to agree with S.Madman, you best replace your AUX battery first before doing other troubleshooting.
The ECO system is linked software wise to many of the other modules and it does its own checking in the background.
No one outside MB ECO designer team knows a 100% what actually ECO does in the background.
One example.... I once witness ECO algo removing/disconnecting charging connection to main battery for a few seconds and that means the baby AUX battery and alternator is the one powering some modules.
This is NOT during ECO operation ( I always kill ECO ), but it can actually do the above mentioned act as part of its self-check routine I guess.
Imagine if that happens when you are doing the highway merge ?
This dumb-azz ECO algo loves to cut charging when we kick down or accelerate. YES, it is programmed that way in the name of "green" emission.

Solution to whatever happened to my car
You guys were right! Replace the damn auxiliary battery. I don’t know for sure if that was the problem but The car hasn’t shut off on me anymore. Seemed that User S-Prihadi was right. The car does some sort of checkup on the batteries and it causes a bunch of nonsense to happen. Sorry it doesn’t sound as detailed or as scientific as he said it.
So yea, replace the auxiliary battery as soon as the message comes up for it. Thank you guys for your help! Ily
