Need help finding part # and soliciting advice

Hello all,

I'm planning on replacing the oil pump in my M272 over xmas break next month and need a bit of help and advice. The help portion is I can't find a gasket in EPC between the oil pump and block. I've got to imagine there's a gasket or o-ring or something to ensure a proper seal, but I'm not seeing it. Can someone help me get the part number or advise if there's in fact no gasket needed?

For the advice portion, I'm going to be replacing the pump, pickup tube, tensioning lever, and the oil pump control valve while I have it out, as well as the front differential (it's leaking pretty good and I found a low mileage replacement for a good price), engine mounts since I'll be dropping the subframe, the subframe and driveshaft bolts, and the driver axle bearing that's inside the oil pan. Is there anything else I should consider replacing while I'm in there? The control arms are still fairly new and the steering rack still looks to be in serviceable condition.

As for why I'm taking on this project (if you're curious), I'm trying to resolve the ticking the engine is making. From everything I've read it's fairly common with the M272 and it's an oiling problem and replacing the noisy tappet doesn't have any impact. I've noticed if I refill the engine after an oil change through the oil fill cap, it'll quiet down for a good 10 or 15 minutes of driving immediately afterward. If I fill through the oil filter opening, the tapping is unchanged. I heard from one guy that said he's had good luck replacing the oil pump to fix the issue, so I figure it's worth a go. My leaking differential needs to be addressed anyway I'll post some pictures when it's done and provide an update one way or the other.

TIA!

need a VIN to look up part numbers as there are SO many variations on the 212 family.

drawing shows a seal between the pump and pickup tube, but nothing between the block and pump?

I'll be interested to hear if anything takes care of the ticking.

It's this kind of ticking (knocking), for reference. You can tell it's just coming from that one corner of the engine.

May I ask which oil you are using for this vehicle?

Mobil 1 European Formula (0w-40 I believe?) along with a MB-branded filter.

are the MB filters still made by Mann ? On my older MBs, I always used Mann or Mahle, and never had any issues.

Yeah 90% sure without looking. I only get the MB ones because I send em back to FCP every time, so why not?
