Bakup camera inop
My 2016 E350 Back up camera went intermittent for several months then stopped working entirely. The dealer supposedly diagnosed it and wanted to change the camera module for a mere $1517 +tax. I asked if the tech noted if the fuse in that circuit had been pulled and reinstalled to reset the power supply module for the camera. I also asked if a software update of the module had been attempted. I never got an answer to either question. The service advisor read the tech's notes which referred to "no codes, wiring harness intact, fuse 86 checks OK". Later the service advisor, who had left me hanging waiting so long for the service manager in the drive through bay that I gave up and drove home, called and told me that Fuse 86 was good-which I had already been told. (Fuse 86 supplies the DVD player. Fuse 84 supplies the power supply for the camera module) Also, I had some remaining time on an extended warranty, and I asked if that repair was covered. I was told that it was not. I said that I had previously been told by a service advisor that it would be covered as a safety item. Not covered I was told.

Now, there's more to this circuit than its fuse...

(AFAIK the camera super long CAN line is real good at picking up noise and piling up errors. The resistors are likely too far remote from that location. However it can work.)

I have no way of knowing how thorough the scan or the harness examination was but they say that they did these things.

Anyway you're gonna need to remove the liner for access, you might as well poke your trunk harness for signals.

Another approach would be to go to another dealer or mechanic for a second opinion on what is needed.
This exemplifies what I have heard about these cars. The major mechanicals like engines and transmissions will last a long time. It is the electronics and accessories that will make the decision whether the car is a long term keeper or not.

Thank you for the schematic. Back in the Pleistocene Era I actually used to be a USN electronics geek but my skills have so faded that even though I see F84 in the signal path to the camera it appears to be external to the module and it is doubtful that remove/replace the fuse will cause a power reset on the camera power supply. If the problem lies further upstream in the camera power supply module the details are not discernible. Likewise, I am not aware of any test that would determine if the camera itself is the issue without the use of a known good camera module. The fact that the tech says that no codes were stored has to be given credulity because, at the least, dealer techs know how to read codes. (I think!)
