Door Pins

Sooooooo i finally got my dream car and im the one in the middle. My boy Jeff (left side) drove me 5 hours to buy this beauty known as Lina, from the guy on the right side (his name is Grieg) at the MBZ of Clearwater. Just wanted to give a pretext to arriving here and wanting to know or be directed how to replace the plastic door pins to the aluminum door pins. I see that the front are screwed, yet the rear, is it pushed in or screwed as well? Thanks everyone.

dC

Door pins inquiry...

Congratulations on your W212 purchase. These MY'14 are great, well equipped luxury sedans.

What kind off CPO warranty terms did you manage with this deal?

I am familiar "door module pins" but not "aluminum vs. plastic door pins" - Any chance you can snap a pic front/rear ?

I'm wondering if he means the door lock things that go up and down when you unlock/lock the doors? I'm not sure what they are called either.

Yep, I think you go it, that makes sense now.

I have not messed with those "pins" or the door lock mechanism they're attached to.

It would be an interesting item to upgrade to "CF" look for fiber style.

thanks for the response.

i meant stainless steel. its the door pin the pops up and down when one engages or disengages the locks. i replaced them on my old w202 2000 kompressor. its a great little detail compared to the plastic ones. im just gonna find a w212 at a junkyard and experiment with removing them.

as for the CPO. this car was 1.5 years outdated to be claimed certified. however, the car was bought, always serviced, and traded in at their dealership. some other purchaser claimed the car yet sent the paperwork and deposit to the wrong dealership. i claimed it 24 hours later because they thought he went ghost and i paid without even driving it. crazy amazing experience.

Congrats on your car
I had bought those pins off the dealer but ebay has tons of them as well . I don't know how hard can it be to replace those pins as I didn't install them myself
Happy Driving

Congrats on your new purchase. You will love the car.

Just a suggestion... I recommend removing the air freshener pods from the A/C louvers immediately. When they leak (and they will) the chemicals will fall on the center stack below and craze the black paint surrounding the various controls.

Regarding the door pins. Changed these myself on a 2014 E350 and 2016 E400. The fronts just screw on and off. The rears can be pulled off carefully with pliers or vise grips by pulling straight up. I wrapped a small rag around the rear pins, used vise grips only as tight as needed -- not very tight -- and pulled straight up; small pop; and off it comes. Put a drop of gorilla glue, or locktight, on the inside of the SS replacement rear pins and pushed them firmly down onto the rod left in the door. No damage resulted either time, and they worked just fine for years. However, the official Benz method involves removing the rear door cards, etc. I doubt any Benz tech really does that -- I could be wrong, though. I learned this method from this forum.

UPDATE: i appreciate the advice and was able to do this really easily. the back popped off easier than i thought and the fronts were easy to unscrew. heres the pics:

front door lock pins removed by unscrewing.

rear door lock pins pop off.

Did you use any glue or anything on the rears? I bought some cheapy ones on ebay and rears constantly pop up and off after locking and unlocking...

I would be careful with using glue to hold these pins in place. You'll never know when you change your mind when that better set of pins come along (you know it will), or when you need to remove the door trim to repair something.

i agree with you. these complement the trim and look oem. i dont forsee myself changing them again, however, great point about creating an obstacle if i need to access the interior of the door.
