Factory Stationary heating system retrofit

Stationary heating is not available on the USA. Webasto manufacturers a heating unit that Mercedes’ uses for cold climate countries. The unit fits under the front right headlamp assy. It uses fuel from the tank to ignite a burner element that heats coolant. This warm coolant is circulated to warm the engine and interior cabin. I will break down installation into three stages.

1. installation of wiring
2. installation of fuel lines
3. installation of coolant lines.

the system itself is activated one of several ways.

1. preset timer in instrument cluster. The instrument cluster will allow three preset times to activate the heater

2. remote control with bidirectional communication

3. button under comand system

4. third party cellular based activation.

Regarding wiring, I ordered a w204 chassis wire since w212 is not available. The wire harness works perfectly for the w212 chassis. I ran it from the rear right Sam unit to the right front of car. I did this at the same time as running wiring for distronic.

Pretty neat, too bad you wind up paying the road tax on the diesel, though. I wonder how expensive it is to operate. Surely it was designed to be as efficient as possible…

this heater retrofit will come in handy during winter storms.

How does the heated coolant get circulated throughout... small electric pump powered by main battery.

The engine electric thermostat will remain shut without ECU control saving heat from escaping to radiator.

a small electric pump circulates coolant. A three way valve controls flow of coolant.

ive done the same mod with my w203 and w211. The 211 is still being used by a friend with close to 200k miles on it and a Diesel engine transplant. Heater still works well. The heater is extremely efficient and does a fantastic job warming the engine and cabin.

yes this is the webasto retrofit. I am using all factory parts from Mercedes’. There is an aftermarket kit that works differently.

Initial startup will be done once fuel line is installed.

Initial connectivity using xentry shows the module is visible with current firmware installed.

Started installation of all coolant lines. First drained all coolant at pet **** on driver side.

New silver line connected to black hose from heater core connection under wiper motor

Running this line along firewall was painful

After proper coding of the central gateway, the parking heater menu shows up in instrument cluster. This allows activation of the heater on predefined times.

small update. I was able to install the receiver in the trunk floor and marry the remote to the car using xentry.

Great info and thanks for sharing! I have a question that I believe you would be able to answer since you've installed a few of these from scratch. I live in Sweden and drive a C238 (2019 E coupe) that has a factory installed auxiliary heater (code 228). As is commonly known MB chose to only warm up the cockpit and not the engine. I read that on BMWs and some older MBs you could disable a valve that shuts of the part of cooler lines that lead to the engine by plugging in a ballast of the same resistance as the actual valve. By doing this you cheat the system into supplying heat to the engine as well as to the heat unit. Is there such an option for this install? or is it the heat exchange valve that controls this? How does the one you installed work? I assume w212 should be rather similar to the next generation. Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure how your system in Sweden but yes you can cheat the system. I assume you have to disconnect the valve but I'm not sure if it will throw an error code.

How did you install the receiver module in the trunk?
