If you're looking to do your engine mounts, I have a tip.

If you own a w212 or are looking too, You should know by now the cars have very consumable engine mounts and the work is atleast $1,200 these days. If you're looking to DIY, I'd like to share something I realized with anyone looking for more information on changing their engine mounts.

Generally, it's advised that you buy the "Special tool" to unscrew the bolt that's in the top of the mount. Even if you buy that tool, it's a pain in the ***. The reasons being: The tool is not ratcheting, it's hard ( maybe am tard and this only applies to me), but it's hard to figure out which way the wrench wants to turn in relation to your rathchet. Everytime you turn the bolt a half turn, you have to lif the wrench up, reposition, and repeat. I easily spent 20-30 minutes just turning, not because they're paticularly tight, they're just long. Do you want an easier time? Check this out

Take a 16mm Impact socket
An impact U Joint
a short exnesion ( Maybe)
A long extension.
Once you remove the Air Filter Box and The ECU, you remove the heat shields and you have plenty of space to put your socket, then the u Joint attached to the extension and zzziiiiipppp.

If you're the type to play it safe, you can break it loose with handtools if you want. But if I ever had to do engine mounts again, that's how I'd do it. I tried it on my car yesterday and tightened the bolt, much smoother ride. Turning that wrench and lifting is ridiculous!

How do you support the engine to take the weight off the mount?

Thumbs up

I'd use a floor jack under the oil pan, lift with 2 fingers lightly

Apparently, he is not the only one having trouble using it. For example, here is someone else's idea
, and him using it for a GLK

Here is another version of the tool (similar to Nathan's video) https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2251...apt=4itemAdapt

I think you should still be able to touch and unscrew the mount, to my understanding, what makes the 4matic job more difficult is the front differential. The complicated step being the physical removal of the mount.

I drove my car onto ramps slid a floor jack under the engine with a piece of wood on it, then lifted the engine as needed.

Essentially this, ramp having ramps made it easier to loosen the lower mount bolts.

What makes using that type of wrench hard, is that I was struggling to figure out which way to turn it and how, more than that, every ~130degrees of rotation, you have lift the wrench up, then put it back on the bolt, and repeat until completion.

I did the job a year ago, I have pictures if you really want them. I'm sharing because using that wrench that everyone said you need to get has been keeping me up at night, absolutely traumatizing. I've been thinking ever since that there must be a better way to do the job.

This guy has the M272 Motor, it looks like the 90 degree V shape make it so that the thin wrench is needed.
