KonigStiger - I need your expert help! (please) Fuel filter for an E550

Hi Konigstiger,

I have a 2011 E550 4M - Yup - here is the VIN - WDDHF9AB1BA416776

I have reached out to 2 different MB dealers - and looked on line - and even FCP Euro does not show anything - I'm so confused...(I think tonight I might just pull the car apart..but

I'm looking to replace the fuel filter...which I believe like all the others is in-tank

According to the MBUSA site - it does not show\list anything.

One dealer told me it was a Charcoal canister!!! ACK
and then another said its not a replaceable item?

Now after 2 more calls - I have been told its part number A204 470 44 94 - but that shows as a fuel pump! but the parts guy told me - that also has a filter in it.

Hope you can guide me in the right direction.

I think I need - 221 470 17 90

But now I'm just even more confused...

Thanks so much in advance!

I am convinced that konigstiger is really Dieter Zetsche and this is his way of enjoying retirement as the former CEO of Mercedes Benz!

Hi -

Thanks so much Konigstiger!!!

Appreciated - I finally pulled out the back seat today and confirmed as you have the part is A2044701494 - which is funny so many places say it does not fit my car!

So maybe this is going to be a horrible loaded question -

I see I can get the Mercedes part for about $370!!!

I see LOTS of generic no name brands for about 70 to 100 bucks! is it worth saving that kind of money on a part like this? Does anyone else have experience?
FCP Euro has one for about 200 - which is where I'm leaning towards unless - you'all say just get CHEAP!

I also figured I would just swap out both sides since I have to remove the other side anyways...(since I'm at 134K miles)

(Yuo picking up the locking ring tool too and two new gaskets)

Thanks all in advance!! any other good tip other than dont smoke \ empty fuel tank \ unplug battery?

And again thank you so much for the info again Big K!!! super appreciated

Go genuine, don't risk it. Someone bought a reputable HELLA brand and for some reason the pressure achieved not in line with the Fuel Computer pressure table and it drives decent ( he doesn't drive like a maniac ), but DTC produced.

Here is fuel filter change 101.

Here is the story of the Hella fuel filter

For its full story, just read earlier post

Have fun .....

You mean you want to change the FUEL PUMP too ?

I suggest don't if it is healthy.

Ok - thanks so much S-Prihadi - Ill go OE.

I was just doing the filter as they said I think 150K miles or 15 years LOL - trying to be somewhat -Pre-emptive on this item.

I think Im now just more worried since i don't have any fuel leaks - that I don't want after either - but I'm pretty detailed and diligent on the work I do...and have 2 new seals ordered too.

Funny note - when I pulled off the 2 steel cover plates that reveal the two sending units - I was shocked at how much dirt and fine dust was in there - so its not sealed from the outside elements from below...but was dry and could be though so thats a good thing!

Thanks all for the help!

Couple quick follow up notes for anyone doing this...

Make sure you get the claw wrench lock tool. Definitely needed

A paint brush and vacuum works great to clean up both housings and rings...so to minimize dirt entering the gas tank.

For me it mostly went good...but questioquestioned if I should have replaced the pump side too...so it does look like there are two filters, one on each side...can this one below be swapped out or the whole pump needs to be replaced if one can...anyone have a part number?

ps the steel locking rings are a PITA to unlock and lock...just be careful as one can...
