Thanks for the add. Now I need to learn how to use this forum correctly. I own a 2010 E350 that has problems now.

I noticed that I needed to post my problem in the sedan forum. But I can't add a post there. So it was added to an old post as a reply.

PROBLEM: GEAR SLIPS INTO PARK WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT OR BACKING UP

I have taken my car to the mechanic more times than I like for the same problem. Only to be told we can't duplicate the problem. Then after fixing something they shouldn't have, the problem showed itself while the mechanic was driving it.

Here's the timeline 2022:
1. First time I took it in, I was told it was the battery. But the battery was new. 1/2022
2. I took it back again, and was told they can't duplicate the problem. This was weeks later.
3. Took it in again (5/2022), then I was told it was the steering column, which they replaced.
4. It happened again last week, So I took the car in again, and was told they can't duplicate the problem (12/2022)
5. The gear slipped into park again yesterday at the red light, and while in reverse (backing into my parking space at home). (12/31/22)

I had to turn the car off and back on; to put it into drive.

I'm getting tired of this, especially the "we can't duplicate the problem" excuse. This make it seem like the problem is in my head, which its not.. I'm ready to get another car.

Has there been a recall on parts regarding this problem? My annual service is due this month. Its no way I'm paying for that while this problem persist.
Seems like a waste of money. Is it time to let this car go?

My car has over 100,000 miles

I'm Frustrated as hell. I hope what I wrote is easy to understand.

Hello Fellow Marylander! Have you had the car scanned? any codes? Something quirky I noticed is that at low speeds if you open the drivers door, the car goes into park! I don't think this is what's happening to you, but the feature and the error may be connected, the criteria you've put forth are at low speeds. Where did you go in MD to have them work on your Benz? I hope not in Beltsville, there's a real shady shop around there.

Why did the shop that replaced the steering column tell you they feel like that would fix the issue? Start small and work back up to the big things, that's the biggest thing I've learned in My mercedes ownership; it's not a catastrophic failure until it is.

Maybe it has something to do with this TSB?

On a recommendation, I took it to the MB shop in Lanham. It's obvious that I'm desperate for a solution, because I'm here, asking questions. I have been online looking for a solution since this all began.

This shop gave me a good impression, until they fix something that I didn't bring my car in for without notifying me. Cost me $1900. Then charged me to switch out the steering column as if the discount on that would make me feel better. I'm still paying for that mistake.

I'm not the only one who have had this gear jumping/slipping problem. So why isn't the solution well known. Its like a lot of guessing, and I'm getting tired.

Yes the car was tested, tested, tested, and tested. Duplication is the problem.

I don't want a car stopping on the highway on me.

Why did he change the steering column, you ask. He said that was the problem. And the problem was fixed for 7 months.
As my husband would say, get the parts instead of believing.

I was told that he could reset and the ......, but the problem might come back. And changing the steering column would be the solution.

Well the problem has returned, and I don't even feel like calling them today. I'm tried, frustrated, and feed up.

I only take photos of my car, when I take it in for service. Sorry I don't have a photo of the car. I can take one, but is it necessary?

After reading other post with the same problem, yesterday, I put the keyless button back in. Many times it don't work. So I will remove it and use the key fob.

I don't want to buy a new car. The interest rates are 5%. When I purchased my MB, the interest was 1%.

A wild guess that is inexpensive; replace the auxiliary battery that is in the drver side dash/
Battery is only $15 on Amazon or at Home Depot and relatively easy to replace.
My 2012 just had a malfunction notice for the aux battery on a really cold morning-- battery is original.
Battery is for when the car breaks down and the electric transmission is needed to put car in neutral to tow the car.
Could be tied to some control error, Just guessing.

It's a known issue, like the car stops recognizing the key at low speeds and it tries to stop it while moving as a safety issue like someone is trying to leave without the key. It will do this similarly if you're standing away from your car with a keyless-go vehicle and someone is trying to drive it off. Are you using keyless go per chance? Have you tried it with just the key inside the ignition? Hows your car battery? Modules often get reset when the car starts with low voltage especially in cold wearther

Good gosh I destest the MB dealer network for doing less work than like a few folks on forums.

Its been a while since the auxiliary battery has been replaced. But I don't see any warnings on my dash board to change it. According to the mechanic, they checked everything on the scanner.

I don't want to tell the mechanic what to do. But I am desperate and might have to do that.

Since the keyless button don't always work, I will have that checked out too.

It's good to read that it's a known problem. Why do I keep getting "we can't duplicate the problem." If they can't duplicate the gear shifting/slipping/jumping into park, they just return my car after putting it on their scanners.

The only time he duplicated the problem, I was charge for something I didn't bring the car in for. So the problem showed itself during the test drive.

I'm so frustrated. If my car don't work properly, I'm afraid to use it for work.

Thanks for the suggestions.

OMG: "Key in electronic ignition switch (EZS) is not recognized, automatic transmission shifts to "Automatic P" before vehicle comes to a stop"

it's a GREAT car once you're over this hump. Like, one of the best cars I've ever owned. I love the E63, E550, and even the E350. You have no idea what I've seen some out of BMW and Audi for problems comparatively.

I'm trying to keep the car. I just don't want to keep having the same problem and folks responding with "I can't duplicate it. Therefore, the problem goes unfixed.

I will be bringing all the suggestions to the mechanic next week. It's sad too, that I have to tell them what to check.

Scanners don't seem to be worth much. I'm not sure if I should continue to use this MB shop. After taking my car back for the same problem more than 5 times, is a red flag. Even though they didn't change me each time, I was damn sure charged for unauthorized work.

Angry No Fix Solution to Gear Jumping into Park - Screaming Help!

I took my car back to the mechanic for the gear slipping into park while stopping at a red light or backing into my parking space. I was armed with knowledge from this group (starter defective, alt battery) and was told that the scanner did not pick up a signal strong enough to confirm the "starter" as the problem. And since the alt battery light was not on, that wouldn't be the problem.

I just don't understand why I have to keep going through this. It makes no sense to me, at all.

Can I call MB manufacturer about this? I need to get a resolution.

Meanwhile, I hate the dealer mechanics, they never fix my car without creating a problem. So I avoid them like Covid.

No that's not my vin number. I made it a point bring the printout of this malfunction with me and handed it to the mechanic.

I wrote to MB USA a few hours ago. And one of their Executive Referral Managers is to reach out to me within 48 hours.

I really hope there is a silver lining in all of this.
