Costco's Kirkland is, however. We use Costco Premium as much as practical. It helps that its the cheapest gas in my area.

I'm quite skeptical of snake oil and other additives that they try to sell you. However, from personal experience, Techron works. Over a decade ago, a co-worker sold me a W140 S420 that was running rough, for a really cheap price. I knew it needed A LOT of work, but the price was a bargain. The first thing it needed was a tune up, I knew it'll need at least spark plugs and maybe dist. rotor and cap. When I first got the car, I poured one bottle of Techron into it and to my surprise, that cured the rough idle.

And some of my other non MB cars have it on the service interval to use the fuel additive every 5k.
So I just have a 24ct box of the cheapest additive I found at the time (liqui moly) and just add it with every oil change I do now, never felt a difference on any of the cars.

I've had ZERO issues with engine performance... no hard starts, no idling problems, no stumbles, etc. I don't use any additives, either. I did use a bottle of Techron once, just to see what all this periodic, repeated blabber is about here. Made ZERO noticeable difference, so I haven't used it since.
I guess some of us are just lucky. Naw...

Years ago, on a long-distance drive between St. Louis and Orlando, FL (going to DisneyWorld), I refilled my minivan's tank in Georgia at a Chevron station. This "Top Tier" station did not sell me usable gas... more like watered gas. I sputtered down I-75 for hours. until I topped up with better fuel in FL.
One can get bad gas anywhere, I suppose. But if "Top Tier" means you have better confidence in a branded gasoline, this time it failed. I haven't patronized a "Top Tier" Chevron station in the 28 years since...

Same thing is true for ethanol, today may be Cargill, tomorrow may be ADM, or a local small producer, once the truck is QC'ed at the inbound gate, it all goes into the same tank,
For you left coasters, most of your ethanol comes from Pacific Ethanol, 2-3 ethanol plants in Cali, for you Bay Area guys, it comes from Stockton.

Santa Maria and Rodeo are connected by a pipeline, operated by Conoco, so the gas from each can be produced at either. One refinery owned by Chevron, the other by Phillips 66, a spin-off from Conoco.

Rodeo is a 3rd refinery I forgot to mention as I rarely hear of it. Its less than half the capacity of the Chevron Pt Richmond facility.
