Plastic Welding With Staples Works Great!!
With many thanks to @konigstiger showing me which sensor was No.4, I went to replace a faulty parktronic sensor that beeps when it wants and was slowly driving me nuts!! I ordered a new one and the scan tool said No.4 was faulty, once we learned which one was No.4 we set about pulling the front off the car, so much easier when done on a hoist/lift!!!
Once i got the front off and removed the long Styrofoam bar that covers all the radar and parking sensors i found one mount for a parktronic was half hanging off!
I thought now is a good time to test out my Aliexpress plastic staple welding tool.
After experimenting on an old bumper we had lying round the shop I worked out that if you get the staple red hot, release the trigger, let it cool 2-3secs and press it into the plastic you want to join, keep still for about 15-20secs then pull the gun back leaving the staple welded into the 2 pieces of plastic, I repeated this around the mounts feet to secure them to the back of the bumper and it actually worked very well!!
I pushed in the new sensor and put the car back together and now I can drive in peace and quite again!!
Yup, they are great. Mine looks just like that. I've done quite a bit of repairing on the plastic of my old bike (Triumph Trophy) in the past year. After 23 years the plastic cracks pretty easily.
I don't wait after the staples get red hot, though, and I count to 60 for each one to be sure they stay tight in the plastic before trying to remove the gun.
I can see that first kit being a goldmine over here. Three or four small paid repairs would pay for it. The big hurdle for plastic welding always used to be the ABS motorcycle fairings and old luggage. Brittle. But, car plastics are generally not hard and brittle.
