Hi, everyone. My car is w212 with m272 engine, 4 matik. I force the engine a little and release the gas pedal quickly. I hear a knock sound from the back of the car. The car is at "P". Does somebody know what can be the problem? Here is a video (at the 15th second).
my first thoughts were even my GDI does not sound that good with its own rattling orchestra.
If this is engine has a "balance shaft"... question the chain tensioner prior to balance shaft looseness. This will help absorb chain slack to remove freeplay.
FORGET about the high cost of pulling the engine out to replace old shaft.

I do hear the knock at about 16" ... Sounds like someone tapping a metal pipe with a ball peen hammer, or like something settling back into place after engine torque is released.

That description is exactly how it sounds. It comes not from the engine (I am pretty sure about that). I hear it from the back. The engine and the transmission mounts are new and the car has not got any vibrations at all.
Also there are 2+2 bolts securing the CAT. Which if on my engine, the mounting point is to CAT welded L-plate towards the tranny.
Check if those bolts loose or lost.

When the 2 engine mounts are replaced, usually the exhaust need to be removed* ( *for my engine ). so maybe these 2 + 2 bolts were not tight or whatever.

MB has a 20 year (yes, 20 year) warranty on the suspension sub-frame in the rear due to corrosion issues. Probably not related, but dealerships are supposed to check it out for you and repair or replace.
Or could it be a body?
