Question about replacing w212 Amp
So I posed a couple weeks back how my left drivers door speaker was cutting out and distorting after a long trip. I was recommended to replace the amp now before it fry’s my speakers.
I pulled the amp and it shows part number a2129005213. When I called Mercedes for a replacement they gave me part number 212900862980. New, it costs about $2000. At MB they told me to hunt for a replacement on eBay since they don’t have the original part number anymore.
so after searching on eBay I found a few 2129005213’s for about $300
the question is, should I replace it with the same part number, or bite the bullet and pay $2k for an updated part number?
also, is this plug and play? Or do I need to take it to the dealer for programming?
thanks.
This is my current amp from my 2014 E350 Wagon.

$300 vs. $2000....
I'd try the used $300 amplifier before the new unit. They have the same gotcha built-in.
These are seriously really good amps with a couple weaknesses.
You want to refresh the heatsink compound that dries to marginal heat conduction. And upgrade the 16V capacitors.
I don't believe it needs coding.

Have you thought about having the original amp tested and possibly rebuilt? Last year when I was trying to track down a no sound fault in my wagon I removed it and had the guys at Becker Auto Sound in NJ bench test the amp. They determined that the amp was working and the fault was elsewhere in the MOST system...eventually tracked it down to corroded wiring under the front passenger carpeting. I know there is a similar outfit on the west coast in Cali. Imo will be cheaper than buying new OE amp and less risking then buying used from eBay.

I googled a sound repair shop in the Bay Area and there are a couple I’ll call tomorrow to see if they work on this amp. That’s a good idea.
if not, I’ll do as suggested and buy a used one, assuming it’s simply plug and play.

Door speaker replacement
How do you know it isn't the door speaker
These are prone to failure
I have posted how to use cheap speakers available on ebay to replace the door speakers
They work a treat for me
