15 year service

I could take it to dealership for the fuel filter and coolant, but that is a two hour round trip and a 3-4 hour wait (at least). There are a couple of independents in the area that I have used for routine services.
Any thoughts? I could just defer it for a couple of years probably due to very low mileage.
Thanks.

As for the fuel filter I cannot provide a decent opinion since my experience is based in a country that has very low quality fuel that is often "tampered" with by the gas stations with the addition of unholy chemicals, making the durability of the fuel system components quite difficult to guess.
Best!

A good example, probably M272 engine like yours. The fuel pump is not yet a 3 phase motor from the wire count.
.
15 years, dirty or not that flter, replace it anyway.
Here is why :
01. Its paper element glued to the plastic base of the filter ELEMENT maybe too old. Hence the filter is actually not very tight to small debris...as you can see on mine albeit only at 8 years old.
You can read my autopsy report here : https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...er-change.html
02. The small clear plastic hoses, 2 of them which criss-cross between fuel filter at LEFT rear to fuel pump at RIGHT rear get hardened and may loose its good sealing quality.
Since MB design of fuel filter has a return feed to fuel pump called JET PUMP ( venturi effect ) those 2 hoses, one is exposed to about 7ish BAR and that is 105PSI.
8 years old, approx under 35,000KM and a new one
You first must check if your fuel filter and fuel pump lock ring is like the video I linked or different/newer like mine. You need special tool if yours is like mine.
You need to remove BOTH fuel filter and fuel pump, because of that criss-cross clear hoses.
You need to drain your RIGHT side fuel tank which is FUEL PUMP location, as it will have more fuel than the LEFT side which is FUEL FILTER. This is how fuel pump can suck fuel all the time and is cooled by fuel.
Your fuel gauge can not tell the true fuel level at RIGHT side fuel tank, because it uses two fuel level sensors at Left and Right side of the saddle tank and average it out.
All above information , in the link I gave you when I did the fuel filter change.
Good luck............
It's very easy to remove the rear bench (just pull upwards) and check the fittings. If you need the special tool, you can get a cheap one on amazon e.g. Mind you, it takes a LOT of force to twist this open. And if you endeavour into this journey, make sure to give the top a the fuel tank a very thorough clean before opening things.
