How is the trunk lock supposed to seal?

Water gets inside the trunk LID and drips out of the lock mechanism when I open it. The water isn't leaking past the trunk lid into the trunk, it's leaking into the inside of the trunk lid itself. This huge hole is the most likely culprit right now. My dealer parts guy tells me there is no gasket that is supposed to be here.
Can anyone snap a pic of theirs to confirm that the button is supposed to be sticking OUT of the lid? Also, does anyone have a link to a guide for replacing this part so I can see how it mounts internally and what is involved in opening this up to see why it's improperly mounted?
Thanks.
Edit: it looks like the bracket is sold separately as part # 204-758-00-14, but I'm not sure if this is the problem here...

This part doesn't show up in the catalog anywhere, so my take is this was someone's half-assed attempt to fix the leak without identifying the problem first.
Can someone confirm this piece is extraneous?
Edit: this piece could also have been added as a half-assed fix for ANOTHER leak that I haven't found yet. And it might have actually served this purpose at some point...

So I'll just find an appropriate adhesive and stick this one back on...

As soon as it gets back above freezing, I'm going to do a proper water intrusion test to confirm where the water is actually entering from. Maybe the gap around the lock mechanism is a red herring.

Your question made me worried too....of leak
It appears that water could be entering at one or more of these areas to collect inside the trunk lid, though the Star would be my first look. I wonder if there was ever collision damage to the trunk lid and it was replaced.

Still we need to check these when they go older

I'm going to go over every single possible leak point in the trunk after I fix this stupid leak in my cooling system at the interface to the windshield washer reservoir.
