Snapping noise from roof
Howdy all!
I have a 2014 E550 with 95,000 on the clock.
Sometimes when I go over a bump, lets say a speed bump, I get a loud snapping noise from somewhere in the upper left side of the roof.
It happens mostly if I go over the bump at an angle.
Thanks in advance for your insight.
Joe

If you have a Pano roof, it's coming from the roof bolts, you may need to drop sections of the headliner to get to them, it;'s best to pull them out and put some thread lock on the bolts, then torq to spec, Search this forum for threads on this repair

roof leak ???
While you're dealing with pops from roof flexing over bumps, you may want to test for water penetrations with a garden hose or a water container.
> This test is a bit invasive to perform....
-- you want to see if rain has started to leak in from loose roof/windshield without creating damage yourself.
-- Look inside :
- at A-pillar and
- on the L+R front footwell carpets.
Don't use a lot of water... 1 small container per side.

I used to own a 2013 W212 with pano sunroof and I had the same problem when I drove over any driveway. I did the same thing Pierre shows up here, and I used locktite for bolts. Sadly, problem continued after that, so I got fed up and sold the car vowing never again to own a Mercedes. Other folks on this forum had tried the same method and it worked for them, so it's worth giving it a shot. I guess my vow not to own another Mercedes was short lived, as a good friend of mine says, we're plagued with the Mercedes virus

Well, it doesn't hurt anything, but it is annoying, I have a roll curb at my local post office I just go in gently and don't get the body twist to make a noise, it's really the only place I have encountered the squeak, Also, I've been to Wyzata, hundreds of times, the temperature extremes you get in Minnesota contribute to this issue quite a bit.

Yes. You're right. It seems to be more prevalent in warmer temps.
Relieved to hear its not hurting anything but it is very annoying and unsettling.
Right. I take it easy over bums and driveway aprons.
Thanks!
