W213 E Class problems

Hi Guys I wonder if anyone else is experiencing quality issues with there E CLass ? My Vehicle is a 22OD and was registered last September 2016. The vehicle has now covered 4500 miles and the following issues have arisen. 1, Sun glasses holder jammed and will not open. 2. Radio at times fails to operate and a Device not Available showing in the display. 3. Door mirror down ights no longer working (LED's failed) Front and rear brake judder issues through the steering wheel (awaiting new discs and pads to be fitted. All 4 wheels have been re balanced as not done correctly at the factory......... hopefully no more issues will arise as I am fed up of paying visits to my supplying dealer.

Too bad to hear about these quality issues. LEDs that stop working seem to be a fairly common problem among the other MB cars too (c-class for example). Too thin paint is another problem and every now and then people get a car with screeching brakes which seems almost impossible to fix.

I've got a 220d, registered earlier than yours and went in for first service yesterday with 15800 miles. Haven't had any of your issues. There is a European guy on here that's had two sets of discs due to judder. I've got the amg line with bigger front brakes and haven't had any issues. But discs seem to be a common issue

I've had a fair few electrical gremlins and tons of interior rattles though, not overly impressed really especially with dealer who constantly fails to address issues that are harder then turn screw a or push button b . Love the car overall though, just a shame it has niggles though I expected that on an early build car.

Every new model has a lot of issues in the first year. Every new model I've had has been problematic to one degree or another whereas every facelift car I've had have been 100 precent fault free or there abouts.

Typically does a car built nine months after the first of a new model have most of the issues addressed?

Someone on this or the UK merc forum is in automotive industry and i seem to remember they said it's 3 months turn around from problem to embodiment of solution. Coming from aero industry to me that's a staggering speed to design out an issue and get the supply chain delivering in a new validated piece of kit. But if 3 months is true, it would mean all the infantile failures would be resolved by 9 months. Don't catch wear/age related problems though.

First year models tend to always have the issues with any car. Thats why I usually buy Post face lift last year models.

W213 E220d AMG line
I have the W213 E220d AMG suspension, 19" AMG wheels, runflat tyres.

I do have a major issue on stability of the vehicle, due to front suspension. Changed back and front shock absorbers but still the issue is there. The car cannot stay in the road over 120km/h. Lost the back end 2 times with 80km/ h and some rain.

After changing first the back shocks the car is more stable, but front end still a big issue. Unsafe to drive! The local dealer after proposed to change the front shocks also now that the problem is not fixed says that it seems that this car has this type of handling.

The front axle suspension is very soft. The car entering in holes it keeps moving up and down, also left right. I am very disappointed!

Map issue is common, dealer had to sort mine and completely wiped COMAND.

Never had issues with Mercedes Me showing things open, good job getting they fixed, hopefully it's on the app side and not faulty car sensors.

Mercerdes S213 220D AMG-Line
I Have a s213, AMG Line with 20" AMG wheels registered in october 2016, following issues have been solved by the dealership:
1 Brake judder, all Discs and pads replaced
2 tremble in steering wheel; all tires replaced with new ones, there was a height difference
in them
3 Rattle from dashboard; was a hose rattling against some metal way down in the dash,
they had to remove half the interior
4 door panel squeaking, replaced door panel
5 door pin stuck, replaced door pin mechanism
6 Slow command, command wiped and reinstalled

every now and then my ipod disconnects in the middle of a song, dealer is looking into that now.

besides that, it is an awesome car :-)

My car is a 6/16 build and Ive had many of the same issues and couple others you and others have mentioned here. Got a loaner with a build date of 12/16 today and it seems like its much higher quality of a car. The parking sensor doesn't beep as often and they even changed the tone to a better sound. We early adapter are the beta testers.

My car was built in mid-Feb 2017 and (so far) has none of these problems. I presume they corrected them in the intervening months? or maybe they just have not surfaced yet. I'm still under 1k miles.

Maybe not as much of a problem as crappie quality. I was installing my new plates today. While holding the truck deck up to see and screw in the plate the MB emblem snapped off its mounts. it took hardly any pressure. WEAK. Emblem is more plastic. Always thought they were metal and applied similar to Porsche (a nice smack with the bottom of the palm) guess not.

Bad luck! Maybe it cracked when they put it in at the factory. Or the "endless summer" baked the plastic already. Another possibility is that benz emblems are in style again and some "ruffian" had already damaged it!

slightly off topic - but i had always assumed that the trunk emblems (including the star) were just held on by double sided tape or similar. I remember back in the day we used to "shave" emblems off the trunk of our cars by taking floss and sliding it between the emblem and trunk.

does the star just pop off its mounts easily, meaning i could easily paint the emblem black and put it back? or does it have those three mounting pins plus some sort of adhesive? what about the "E300" emblem?

If like the c class the numerical emblems have tape, I know since I removed mine.

Front Brake Judder

Fantasric car fully loaded W213 220d Oct 2016.
My main concern is front brake judder now on 2nd set of repl discs in 10k miles. Garage is outstanding in minimising Afro. Root cause MB changed from solid discs to bonded. I drive the car hard not aggressively plus it is my own car so I treat it with a degree of care. Braking for motorway exits from >75mph in 200m to 30mph to take a hairpin on my commut is not something that should come close to impacting disc/rotor integrity. I drove a w212 regularly around Germany at 135mph and regular had trucks pulling out doing 60mph. ....never had an issue apart from normal pad disc wear. This is different. Question are they all bonded or is the AMG different or the 350?

Same problems here.
I also have road noise due to run-flats.
The AMG sport suspensions settings make teh fort quite hard.. you can try to Setup the springs 20mm lower

First problems appear at 10k miles, and hot summer temps for the dashboards and door runtling

Hi

Not big problem to my wife or to some in dealer but it drove me crazy. In low rev and idle, especially when cold, the e220d engine sounded like a old merc with no doubt there is a diesel. Had it at dealer and repair several times until I got the the specialist that found out that a modification was not applied to my car (early January 2017) and added the two screws accordingly. What a difference! Please see picture

This one is done but there are more sounds around the car that should not be there, especially from back which is there every time I pass a bumb in the road. From right front door some sort of low rattling sound etc.

Old e class was like indestructible solid piece of metal like tractor but not as smooth or fancy as this one. The exterior design was best in S212 before the uplift. Not entirely hooked on the back on S213 and its tail lights.

All in all for being early I think it is good

I also have the rattle low on the door and up toward my head.
It’s so annoying and this is now my 4th Mercedes with some sort of rattle. I think this will be my last.

I have a new model 220d AMG saloon Auto and every time I hit a minor pothole or imperfection in the road it's feels the the car shudders from side to side - is that the same sort of thing you have experienced? I just put it down to terrible build quality. My previous model e-class wasn't as smooth on the motorway but was much better on rougher roads. I might take it back to Mercedes and see of it's a warranty issue.
