E43 Enhanced (Piped-in) Engine Sound

E43 Enhanced (Piped-in) Engine Sound

I have had an interesting and rather bizarre experience in my E43 recently. I've owned the car for over a year now and when I put the car in Sport+ I would get the artificially enhanced or 'piped-in' engine sound into the cabin which I have grown accustomed to. I have grown used to it, but recently I noticed that it has stopped working. Now there is virtually no difference in engine sound between Comfort & Sport+, which has lead me to believe that the device (or whatever it is) has stopped working. I dropped it off at my local dealer and after a week of them looking into it, they have come to the conclusion that my car did not have any feature like that to begin with and that everything is working as normal .

I am very frustrated with that answer because I know that there is something wrong, and the absence of that artificial sound has me wondering if something is not working properly. I know there is much debate (good and bad) about car manufacturers adding this function to cars, but regardless it was something that gave me some type of enjoyment while driving, otherwise I would not have purchased the E43 AMG variant over the standard E300.

I am not sure what to make of the situation now, bc I do feel like something is missing. Have any of you had a similar experience??

The dealer is correct. The E43 never had piped in engine sound. Piped in sound comes from a digital sound processor built into sound system control unit (amplifier) in the trunk. In the "sound enhancing" models the part number is 2139001821. The AMG models have either part number #2139008315 or part #2139008715.

Ok got it. So do you have any idea what could be happening? There is a small speaker (about 4in) right above the gas pedal that I assumed was for enhancing the engine sound.

Any artificial piped-in sound would be a negative IMO. But I hope you got the E43 over an E300 for more than just the sound.

The E43 definitely sounds different in Sport+ than in the other modes. It's very noticeable. I don't know how they implemented it. If your car now sounds the same in all the modes, than something is wrong.

The proper way is to have electronic flaps inside the exhaust that open up

The E43 doesn't have the performance exhaust. I think they make the Sport+ noise some other way.

Don't know about the E43 but other MB models have the exhaust flaps without being an AMG model or having a performance exhaust

That speaker on the lower panel is there in all of them, it's the one that does chime functions. The engine sounds are played through the regular audio system speakers if so equipped.

Did the Vin decoder and sure enough I have B63. The fake engine noise is a heck of a lot nicer than the raspy sound that was forced fed in to the interior of our old 2014 Cadillac CTS 2.0 liter. Great performance, awful sound on that one.

The difference is due to higher RPMs if you keep the RPMs in any mode it will sound the same. Put your car in neutral and raise the revs to the level as in which sport plus idles. The sound will be the same. BTW, to get the best hole shot from the E43 it requires torque braking to about 2K, slip the brake and it runs low fours and the quarter in less than13sec all day long. Unlike a Tesla that goes into limp mode after a couple of ludicrous mode 1/4 miles.

Or something is right. Are you saying that hearing a sound which you know is not a motor sound (which no one outside the car can hear) would be right? This reminds me of the playing cards we pinned to the forks of our bicycles, so they could contact the spokes and make a "motorcycle" sound! (Sorry.)

E43 2018 amg sound

I will tell you one thing which is upto you to believe or not. There is no artificial sound coming from the cabin lol. I dont know how can even people say such a thing!! I hear the sound all the time and it's coming from exhaust. If you want I will even post a video. The trick here is that since e43 doesn't have flaps that you can control manually, you will have to Rev up to hear the sound. You are going to use science here. The sound is loud and clear if you between two opaque objects such as another car and a divider. If you want to test it then try this :

Open up the amg menu (e43 2018)
Make sure you are in gear 3
Rev up around 5200 and release the gas pedal around 42-45 mph
Once you know how to produce the sound you can do it at different speeds. However, it's hard to produce anything over 70 mph.
