Hopefully we will eventually be able to do a software (COMAND) update over the air or by downloading a file from the portal.
That would be nice. As it is, I have no idea what the Software Update via the portal is supposed to do. It's never had any updates posted although there have been multiple COMAND software versions since the car was delivered. It's not clear to me that it is for COMAND software upgrades and I can't imagine it's for ECU software. My guess is that it's a placeholder.

I agree. It’s probably Mercedes plan to allow COMAND updates OTA or via a web download but they're not there yet. Ford allows updates to their Sync system via a web download. MB could certainly do it.
The description of online software updates on the web portal makes it clear that COMAND updates should be part of the service. We’ll have to wait and see how long it takes for this to be available and whether it will ever be available for 2019 cars:

Thats very frustrating. As you can read earlier in this tread, I got the run around, and was told it was done! when it clearly wasn't. After a whole load of bull about needing codes from Germany to update the software, they eventually took it back for a few hours and did it.
I finally went from Version 0.61 to 03.76.00 in March. Thanks to Egonvdv's advice. System boots faster on start up, runs faster all the time, and the enhancements to graphics, icons, fonts, are well worth it. The Navigation also tells me now the upcoming next junction and manoeuvre required. Plenty of other improvements, and I haven't found any problems to date. Just push them and tell them you are having major problems with the navigation freezing....
Hey there. I think in one of your posts you mentioned that you're in Ireland. Would you mind telling me at which dealer you got the update? I called two places in Ireland, both told me there's no updates. Thanks!
Hello JPS984, MSL Deansgrange did the update for me. If your system is running slow, and location is erratic etc. Let them know. It takes a few hours for them to download and update the car, they have no real interest in doing it, unless there is a problem reported.
My COMAND firmware was updated today to version 4.80.00.20 from 3.76.00.10. So far I don’t see any difference, but I haven’t had time to really explore yet.
I recently bought a CPO 2017 E300. I asked the selling dealer to update to the latest software. They said it was up to date. I said it’s not and provided some screen shots of my system and some screenshots from this chain showing 4.77.
Why do the dealers fight this so much? It is ignorance or some kind of cost savings? I assume cost is minimal as I am already going to have the car there doing some other work.
For what it’s worth, here is a pic of my versions:
I pushed the sales rep and she said via text, “I asked service advisors and shop foreman they said no such updates have ever been done at least Not factory approved.”
Any tips for getting the dealer to move off this position? Or do I just need to try a different dealer?

After seeing this post, I called my dealer and asked them to double check for updates, running my VIN, they said there are no updates, although my car is 0.61. So I emailed the service manager and complained (I was already unhappy with them due to other issues). Meanwhile I called another dealer and asked them to run my VIN, they also said that there's no updates shown for my car in the system.
The service manager looked into it and two days later let me know that they actually updated my car back in April but it looks like the update didn't go through due to a connection issue and told me that they will update it again. How does that happen, that I don't know. So they don't see and verify if the update is successful? But anyway, I'm dropping it back to them in October to have it updated.
If you simply go in or call to ask for software updates, they will check the your VIN on the VMI system for any "necessary" updates. These only show safety or recall related software updates. It will not show that your vehicle has any COMAND or Nav updates that "need" to be done.
If it isn't broke, they won't fix it. So if the dealer is unwilling to do general COMAND or Nav software updates, just make up an issue like your COMAND is rebooting and/or your Navigation is freezing and you'd like to check the software and update to newest versions to fix these issues.
Does anyone know if the firmware updates improve some of the lane assist features? I'm curious if there's meaningful improvements beyond a potentially snappier and less buggy interface.

Actually, knowing some of the improved or new features might help a lot: "My buddy's E-Class has /this/ feature, but mine doesn't. I looked, and his is a newer version than mine."

This discussion is about COMAND software. Later versions fix bugs with navigating from phone contacts, for instance, but only COMAND features. Lane assist is not a COMAND feature.

Do you know if MB is able to update those other features via software patches? Or are you locked into the software version at the time your car was made? I'd really like to take advantage of improved camera sensing logic in lane assist, for example, if that was improved in 2018 or 2019 models.

That would be pretty rare. Usually, improvements in systems like these involve hardware changes with software changes in support. ECU, TCU, COMAND, HERMES (communications module) are updated to fix bugs but the more specialized controllers very rarely unless there's a serious flaw in the programming.
Just picked up my car from the dealership with the software updates. When I had called, they too told me there was no 'available' (aka necessary) software updates listed in the VMI.
I have exact "old" picture version as you (2017 CPO E300) and going in for update next week.. Did they way why the "DOM" update level doesn't seem as recent as the others? How is the system behaving? Snappier?

DOM is the Digital Owners' Manual. They don't update that until the next model year, but obviously wouldn't install one for the wrong year.

- Notably quicker to boot & respond to media commands
- Home interface has bigger menu icons; few other changes to the Radio presets listings
- Updated Ambient lighting menus
- Ability to turn off NFC Surface
- Added LIM function to the Active Park Assist
- Access to Favorites menu when Android Auto is connected (previously not available)
- Touch pad responsiveness improved (supposedly the writing recognition is better but haven't tried)

LIM is the abbreviation for the electronic speed limiter. As it relates to park assist, I think in really tight parking situations, they electronically limit your speed so you accidentally go to fast and hit something.
