Anyhow, I brought my 2017 E300 in for Service B today and mentioned "static" in the Command system. My SA immediately and without any push from me updated the software and it is, as described in previous posts, a very nice upgrade for 2017 model. It's very nice to use steering wheel controls on Apple Car Play. Interesting side effect: my auto stop/start is much more responsive in that it engages more easily at stop lights, etc. Whether that is good or bad I'll leave up to the individual reading the post - I'm sure there are lots of opinions on that function!
If I say static in the command system is it like a radio or tv station static or is it visual static like lines and shock waves?

I occasionally had static coming out of the speakers when I started the car up. It was random, once or twice a month - a loud static noise for about 2 seconds as Command started up. Then it would go away.

I just updated to 5.80 yesterday at the dealership, from 4.xx. Here are some things I noticed:

* Steering wheel dampening and stiffness is adjusted, feels a bit heavier but I prefer it this way.
* They must have had the audio upscaling algorithms updated, some songs I used to listen to all the time sound a bit different. There is better instrument seperation in high frequencies.
* The whole UI feels much faster.
* Start stop has definitely changed, its less annoying now (responds quicker).

It's unlikely that COMAND has affected steering or start stop. Perhaps they updated some other software as well?

Yeah I believe they updated everything they could. I would normally discount a change like that as being a placebo, but there is a noticeable change compared to before the update.

I just went from 4.80.00.02 to 5.80.00.00. I haven’t had time yet to test much of it. So far I haven’t noticed any changes.

Is the "Command" feature standard on all E-classes (mine is a 2018)? If so, is the upgrade to the most current software version "included" as part of the original/manufacturers warranty? Meaning, is it free of charge?

Thank you.

Unhappy Dealer claims version 00.61 is the latest :/

Hi everyone! First of all thank you for the tons of good information that I've been able to find in this thread. I've been reading it for a while and, finally, I've decided to join the forum so I can contribute / ask for your feedback. Here's the story of what happened to me today:
Following all the great success stories of forum members getting their cars updated, I took my late 2016 W213 E43 AMG to the dealer. I mentioned some issues with bluetooth, slow interface, blah blah blah, and they agreed that I needed a software update. I was on version 00.59.
They give me a call a few hours later saying that my car is ready and to my surprise, when I check the "new" version, I find 00.61. Wow. Inmediate disappointment filled my soul. I went back inside to speak to the service rep and explained that there were at least half a dozen versions newer than 00.61 (3.76, 4.8, 5.8 etc.) and that there were many issues still unsolved with 00.61. He didn't doubt this and called the "chief mechanic" who assured him that 00.61 was the latest version. I tried to argue that many other W213 owners with command NTG 5.5 had much newer versions. It didn't matter.
After a few minutes of unfruitful discussions, they said that maybe they had different options (especifically the 531 comand aps ntg5/ntg5.5 option) associated with their VIN and that's why they got newer versions. They also claimed that maybe it was down to the region and Spain didn't have anything newer than 0.61. I begged them to contact MB Spain for confirmation/disproof of this fact but they said "they wouldn't want to bother them without having some evidence". So here's where I would need your kind help. Would any of you with newer versions be happy to share the VIN of the vehicle to proof that they have the 531 option (like I do) and a newer-than-00.61 command version? This way I can push them to contact Mercedes Spain and possibly manage to get a proper update.
Many thanks in advance and sorry for the long post.
Cheers!
Edit: by the way, in case you are wondering, they charged me 43,8€ for this "update" from 00.59 to 00.61

A quick follow up. I went back today to a different dealer from my region. I had a contact there so he let me have a look at the xentry diagnosis tool and, indeed, there were no available updates. Am I really out of luck? Could any of you point me in the right direction to obtain those nice newer updates (5.80)? He said that if any of you know how to force the system to update or knows how to find the missing updates, then he'll happily do it; otherwise I guess this is it

Thank you in advance for any help you might be able to provide and please let me know if you want me to translate anything from the screen (although it basically says everywhere: no updates found. software is already up-to-date.)

I had the same issue with Waze showing incorrect speed (130 mph when actually traveling around 75-80!). Can confirm that an update from 00.61 to 5.8 has fixed this!

One thing that bothers me with the update is if I’m using Waze and switch off of it (to radio for example) and then hit the nav button, it used to go back to my Waze map…but no longer does this. Now it goes to the native nav map and I have to search through the car menu to ‘reactivate’ CarPlay. Has anyone else noticed this change *or* is there a better way I should be doing this?

My recollection is with the old version of Command, CarPlay was all or nothing - you were either in CarPlay or not. Any switching out meant you were out. So when in CarPlay, if you pressed Nav, you went right back to Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze or whatever you were using. There was no option whatsoever to use the M-B native Nav when in CarPlay. Now you can use CarPlay and the M-B Nav at the same time.

I may listen to CarPlay music or a Podcast while using the M-B Nav if I'm in the mood for that (for example, when I wish to have Nav on the Heads Up Display). Or, I can select the home button on the steering wheel or armrest area, swipe up to CarPlay, hit enter and go back to CarPlay for music, phone or one of CarPlay's maps (AppleMaps, Google Maps, Waze), etc.

So now, you are able to use whatever Nav you want (M-B or CarPlay) and it is far easier to go back to CarPlay if you exit out for Nav or Seat Adjustments or whatever.

For me, it is far better. I did not like that the old version did not let you use the M-B Nav while using CarPlay.

Yes, I have the same .... going to the MB satnav.

The fastest to go back to AndroidAuto is to click the home button and click up with the navigation wheel. That's where the short cut is.

Unfortunately, as far as I understand it, with the new MBUX models it is back to all or nothing with regard to CarPlay again.

BUMP for October. I've had 5.8 updated on my last oil change which was back in 2020.

Is 5.8 the latest COMAND version, or has anyone gotten anything newer?

Ah ok, i though COMAND was the hardware and MBUX the software

So how does it work with MBUX, does it need to be updated too ?
cos i don't see any version in the dealer menu
And if so, are those updates done over air too ?

found how to get into the menu here :
