RunFlat replacement tires
I just bought a 2017 E300 and love everything so far except for the tires. The dealer put Hankook RFS run-flat tires on the car and I think that they are noisy and ride hard. Has anyone replaced the RFs with a nice set of Michelin or similar? Is it worth the effort? Any personal experience with this?
TIA, Mike.

Yes. People changed from RF tires. And yes its worth it. And yes it will ride better. And there are multiple threads below yours just on this topic.

It was suggested to me that Continental makes a RF tire that rides nicer than most. Can anyone who has them comment? It sounds like a logical compromise.

Don't know about the continental but the Michelin Primacy Runflats ride great. I went from the Goodyear Eagle Sport Runflats to them and could not be more happy. I do like the idea of having runflats just incase of getting a blowout in a unexpected place at least you can drive the car for a little ways and get the heck off the shoulder of the road where it is very dangerous. I think some people don't give that enough consideration.

Mine came stock with ContiProContact GX SSR run flats, 19” wheels. Not at all happy with them. All the road imperfections translate thru easily & I think the sidewalls may have been so hard as to allow my rims to dent easily.
They also skip a bit sideways too much on bridge joints that are at an diagonal angle to the road.

I have stayed away from Michelin's due to poor mileage (<10k miles from a 40k guarantee tire). Two sets were replaced by Michelin - one free and the other prorated.
I'm very pleased with the Pirelli's that I specified on my E300. They should last for my projected 6 years of ownership (about 30k miles).

The E300 is my wife's car and she wants the run flats so she should have them but if it was my driver I would put conventional radials on and put a spare in the trunk.

My CPO arrived with Goodyear Eagle Sport Run Flat tires, 245/45R/18. I saw the dealer invoice at $1200 which is crazy. The tires had 27 miles.
A friend, who is a service manager for Porsche, suggested to sell them and get what I wanted. So I got Michelin A/S at Costco. This is the same tire I had on my '05 W211 E320 CDI and with Florida rains and analysis from Consumer Reports, I was very pleased.
I've listed my new run flats on Craigslist, this forum classified, and others. BTW, I'm not a sport driver and bought the Luxury version for the E320W. In the end, to each his own!

My CLS has 20" low profile Pirelli's. The car rides like a tank and the tires are very noisy. On the other hand, my wife's E43 has 19" Conti AS RFT and they are quiet and the ride is good. Having no space for a spare and no jack, it's difficult to change to regular tires.

Not so, my 2017 E300 came with the Continental RF tires and I hated them. After 22 months and 17,000 miles my front tires need to be replaced. I ended up replacing them with Bridgestone Quiet Track non run flat tires and couldn’t be happier. These are AWD all weather rated

I have Primacy 3's on my w213 with 19" wheels - lowered 677 suspension and think they ride very nicely. Originally when I ordered my car, the test cars had P7's which are also pretty good but I'd say the Primacy's are a tad quieter. Overall, really pleased and will replace with the same when their time is up

The Primacy 3 are not recommended for temps approaching freezing or snow according to Tire Rack and I am in snow country.
Mike.
EDIT - Are the Primacy tires run flat?
