Repacement tires for runflats
Any advice for an average replacement?
And any suggestions as to what to do with the runflats?

FWIW, I really like my (now not so) new tires, despite the initial problem.

I happen to have RFT in our CLS and they provide great ride handling with a bit of road noise even though I had three of them replaced. They do provide the advantage if you have a flat. They can get you up to 50 miles of travel time where conventional tires may not. I can attest to it. Good luck with your search.
Kept one of the RFT's and found a full size refurbished rim and
placed the RFT on that to use as a spare should we use the car on a long trip.

Regarding AWD the system detects a smaller diameter tire as wheel slippage and tries to compensate.

There is a huge debate, my friends are leaning toward changing to non run flat while I wanted to replace all 4 with new RFT to experience them.
Still the decision is not made yet. I am living in Saudi arabia btw, and heat might affect tires too. Also, all my friends who drive MB switch to non run flat because they said the tires are rigid and you can feel a smooth driving in our streets once you ditch the RFT.
If I picked non run flat tires, it might be bridgestone or hankok. I would go for a search for spare part or OEM rim in my long trips just to have peace of mind.
Or
I might change to RFT and try to find a kit for pumping and fixing if it was damaged during long trips.
