Repacement tires for runflats

I hate my runflats. I don't race around, I don't have any snow issues to the point that I need snow tires, I just am tired of feeling like my wheels are gonna crack when i go over a small pothole or dip .
Any advice for an average replacement?
And any suggestions as to what to do with the runflats?

Read this lengthy thread: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...nary-tale.html

FWIW, I really like my (now not so) new tires, despite the initial problem.

I replaced my Pirelli runflats with conventional Pirelli tires in the same size 245/45-18 plus a compact spare. I couldn't be happier.

If your MB is leased, check with your dealer if they require RFT when you turn your lease in. A pre-delivery lease inspection will pick this item up in a heart beat.
I happen to have RFT in our CLS and they provide great ride handling with a bit of road noise even though I had three of them replaced. They do provide the advantage if you have a flat. They can get you up to 50 miles of travel time where conventional tires may not. I can attest to it. Good luck with your search.

My favorite tires are Bridgestone QuietTrack non-run flat tires. The QuietTrack replaced the Serenity Plus line, which was my previous favorite. I put them on our 2019 E450 Wagon within days of picking it up and the ride is MAGNIFICENT! These tires are very quiet and very soft riding. I have them on my S560 sedan as well.

I replaced my RFT's with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+. Great grip. No more sliding.
Kept one of the RFT's and found a full size refurbished rim and

placed the RFT on that to use as a spare should we use the car on a long trip.

What model of pirellis and where did u get spare?. I read somewhere that the car (AWD transmission) doesn't like smaller tires, as a temporary solution. Is that true?

Read this topic about my eventual solution to non-RFT & a spare, especially post #15.
Regarding AWD the system detects a smaller diameter tire as wheel slippage and tries to compensate.

I am currently leasing a 2018 X5 with 20" wheels and it also came with run flats. I replaced them after only 4K miles with high performance all season non run flats and the difference is night and day. Just before my lease return inspection I'll put the run flats back on with only 4K miles for the turn in of the vehicle. In Dec I plan on leasing an E450 wagon and will do the same thing with those run flats. Run flats have their own set of problems, they will only work once a flat has occurred provided the hole is small. If its larger the run flats are as useless as a non run flat and many tire places will not patch a run flat if it is damaged.

Interesting. I am leasing a 2019 X5 MSport with 20" wheels. It came with Pirelli Scorpion runflats and honestly I don't find them too objectionable, much better than other runflats I have had on other BMWs. I had considered replacing them with non runflats but we are driving so little now with the pandemic that I have decided to leave them on. They will definitely not need to be replaced at lease turn in as we have only put 8000 miles on them in 18 months.

Depending on the tire brand, some like Pirelli offer a road hazard warranty on their run flat tires. Others like Goodyear have no road hazard and once you get a flat with them, you can't repair them. It's the ideal tire for the throw away generation, can't fix it, just have to throw it away and get a new one.

Since I got my car, I wanted to replace my tires. The front two are all season HB bravo tires and the rear ones are RFT pirelli.
There is a huge debate, my friends are leaning toward changing to non run flat while I wanted to replace all 4 with new RFT to experience them.
Still the decision is not made yet. I am living in Saudi arabia btw, and heat might affect tires too. Also, all my friends who drive MB switch to non run flat because they said the tires are rigid and you can feel a smooth driving in our streets once you ditch the RFT.
If I picked non run flat tires, it might be bridgestone or hankok. I would go for a search for spare part or OEM rim in my long trips just to have peace of mind.
Or
I might change to RFT and try to find a kit for pumping and fixing if it was damaged during long trips.
