Just had a chat with my dealer here in France, who informed me :

35 car were supposed to be delivered in June, he only got 3.
delays range from 1 to 4 months, depending on model.
On the E class there seems to be a lack of LTE modules.
If that is the only problem then the car WILL be delivered to me, and the module will be installed at a later stage.
However there are also delivery problems with some security systems,
For instance; a hybrid car will emit a sound up to 30km/h to warn people in the street, (when driving 100% electric)
if this system is not available when the car is being built, then it will not be delivered until said system is available.
apparently if the delay is over 1 month, Mercedes will arrange for loaners for their customers,
so you might want to check that with your dealer if you are in the same boat (not car!) as me.
ok not an E but I have an EQC (french also) on order and was told a couple of weeks ago it had gone into production but delivery could not be guaranteed at the end of July as anticipated as the lack of parts may cause problems and build may be slowed or halted as yet no update. On the french configuration site there is now a big warning sign saying there is a shortage of LTE modules which will affect delivery. Have to say I would not be happy having the car delivered without as I think the LTE connection is integral to the function of the EQC in relation to navigation and charging. As my E lease does not run out until Oct I I will hang on and refuse delivery until the car is complete. It has enough compromises for me as it is albeit I want an all electric. Am buying the EQC as it is the only choice in the lifecycle of my leasing pattern.
When delivery of my current E was delayed due to the WLTP revisions in 2018 my dealership gave me a loaner so am sure Mercedes will keep customers mobile.
Ordered my e63s on 22/02/2021, expected build start on 07/06/2021, delivery end on June 2021.
Mid of June got informed that build start was postponed to 05/07 due to chips shortage, delivery end of July 2021.

a quick update... i placed my order for aa MY21 E350 in Dec 2020. Delivery was set for April 20, 2021. that then got pushed to June and as of July 9, the car is still showing "not built". yes it is a very equipped car with almost every option but it seems the parts shortage is more serious than thought. fortunately for me, the dealer pulled a miracle and got me an almost similar car from another dealer (a feb build that just arrived)

I wonder if those who are waiting several months beyond the standard 3-4 are because the dealer just doesn't have an allocation yet. Computer chip shortages causing MB to lower planned production schedules tremendously. Not entirely sure how MB does allocations but BMW NA bases monthly allocations based upon previous sales numbers. Kind of tricky right now due to COVID but it's safe to say, large volume dealers will have more allocations than smaller dealers in cities with smaller markets.
I do know if your dealer has an open slot with a planned production date for a certain decade of the month with a PO number then they already have the allocation. They just have to submit the order and receive confirmation from MB.
On financial channel yesterday, after mentioning the steadily increasing production delays for BMW,they said that the semi-conductor chip shortage for the entire car industry that was thought to last till the end of the year may now last until 2023.
You know my new car order request placed in January that couldn't be submitted until the end of April for a July build date & now on hold potentially till November?
Now I'm anticipating that may be further delayed for a L...o...n...g,...L...o...n...g time.

Here are some from delivery day yesterday. I asked the dealer to NOT wash the car as I took it today to have a full Xpel wrap and ceramic coating applied. Dealer left most of the interior coverings on as well so the detailer can handle everything. Should get the car back in about 10 days so will post more pictures then. The drive to the detailer was over 100 miles from my home and I like it so far, but clearly I have to spend time learning about the technology and other features of the car.
