As far as I know, RainX does not affect the operation of rain sensing wipers, it may affect wash fluid level sensor if you use RainX windshield washer fluid. I have problem finding the right wiper setting for even cars with 4 or 5 settings for rain sensing sensitivity The E only has 2 settings and most of the time, its either wipes too often or not often enough. I wish I could change the rain sensing adjustment to plain old time interval wipers like the old days.
My general sense with my old S211 and new S213 is that the auto wipers are far too sensitive when it comes to just a fine mist falling. They end up sweeping much more than necessary.
It gets my blood boiling that of all the cars I've owned with rain sensing wipers, they never work correctly, in that they always end up going too fast, That's been the case with BMW, and now my MB. At least with my Audi you could disable the rain sensing and have fixed interval intermittent wiping. That should always be an option! I will ask RJ Automotive if there is a way of coding that.
Rain sensing wipers are not ready for prime time yet, its been out for almost 20 years and car manufacturers still have not worked out the bugs yet. The sensing area needs to be much bigger to get a accurate representation of the rain conditions.
Mine doesn’t seem to work really at all. Makes me think they aren’t rain sensing on my 2021 E450. Could it be I don’t have the feature? That would really **** me off. Drove my 2017 Volvo S90 again yesterday (moved from Volvo due to China’s stake in the company. Broke my heart as the seats in it are VASTLY superior (if you haven’t owned a Volvo you really have no idea, I have no idea what German people’s butts are made out of that the seats can be rockhard and have little or no side bolster. The rain sensing wiper work perfectly on the S90 yesterday, and the drive assist features work every bit as well as my 4 year newer E450. Hands down the Mercedes wins on acceleration, cornering and looking like a Hyundai or Ford Taurus circa 2005. At least weekly people commented on what a beautiful car it was. Chinese ownership was a dealbreaker, and their infotainment system was incredibly dated. Interestingly, enough that seems to have been addressed in the last six months. Oh, yeah, the Volvo had way better seat and steering wheel heating, but the Mercedes wins by a considerable margin on seat cooling, while being very quiet.

On my car the control knob has 4 settings - off, sensing, fixed slow and fixed fast.

I think it is 5, but could be wrong, as per the picture: Off, rain sensing slow (three dots "..."), rain sensing fast (four dots (....), slow (one dash "-", fast (double dash "=")
