2024 vs 2023 E450 All Terrain

Greetings all, here's an issue that may be more a matter of opinion than hard fact. I love my 2011 Audi A6 Avant 3.0T Quattro, and I'm reluctant to part with it because it's the last pure A6 Wagon that Audi imported into the USA, but it's getting long in the tooth and beginning to manifest issues for which Audi no longer manufactures parts. Also, it doesn't feature the safety and technological advances available only in a newer model. Not interested in a new A6 Allroad because it's bulked up so much from my elegant Avant that it feels like I'm driving an SUV. My wife's 2012 E350 sedan remains trouble-free, is a joy to drive and she has no intention of selling it, so at age 76 I've decided my last car is also going to be a MB, the E450 All Terrain.

The issue: Order a new 2024 model and configure it exactly as I want it, or save a few thousand dollars and buy a 2023 with a still-new warranty or a CPO warranty if I can find one that ticks most of my boxes. Other than the refreshed body style, which I like, I can't identify any significant differences between the 2024 and 2023 models. Hoping some of you fine folks can point out any technical differences that would prompt me to go for the 2024. No difference is too small to consider. If they're essentially mechanically identical, obviously the 2023 is the way to go, but as it's going to be my final car purchase, I don't want to miss out on any improvements that the 2024 model offers. As you can tell from my comments above, we don't flip cars. We keep them and religiously maintain them.

Thx in advance for your replies!

It's difficult to decide on a 2024 E450 wagon when MB has yet to provide information on its availability for the US market. All I can find on the MB web build site is "coming soon".

Give it a few more months and the 2025 models should be hitting the market.
Perhaps MBUSA decided to skip the 2024 model year.

The only 2024's I see at the dealers in the E class is the e350's. Dunno when the wagons are coming, although based on the improvements to the 214 platform vs the 213 platform you might be best off waiting for a 2024 or 2025.

I'm concerned there will be no models available for the US market after the 2024 year. It's a niche market at best. I'm ready to order one now.

I just sent in the stay informed to mbusa for this model, it does look like a beautiful car if it ever comes available in the USA. https://www.mbusa.com/en/future-vehi...ss-all-terrain

I just came across this September 2023 Motor Trend article that said the '24 All Terrain will go on sale in July 2024.

I may have found my E450. New 2023. My dealer is going to verify its availability and have it delivered from another dealer.
Not prepared to wait for a new model that demands top dollar but can't order until July and then likely not receive until Q4 2024.

Ordinarily I wouldn't be a fan of the wheel arch cladding, but it works well with the Poiar White and Night Package.

Order new

You keep a car for a long time if I were you, I would buy the 214. I ordered my car and waited for it and got exactly what I want. I’m not sure where you live but if you live in a place with potholes, I recommend against low profile wheels, especially since Mercedes doesn’t give you a spare like Audi does. I ordered my car with the acoustic acoustic package is a real plus. If you live in the north the 214s can come with a windshield that has little wires in it to keep the snow from freezing on your windshield . You should watch that guy in Germany, Stephan with some complicated name I can’t remember and watch his review of the 214 wagon before you make a final decision. Oddly enough, I’m thinking about switching to the OEL Road because you can get the wheel well cladding to match the car but in every other way, I think the Mercedes is better except the Audi is a little less money

E450 Allroad
I have currently a E450 All Terrain from 2022 and love the car. Has nearly all the options and has been driving extremely well. Just looked at the new configurator for the new E450 sedan. I would normally itch for the newer model, but it still looks like the previous one with some slight cosmetic changes and powertrain is still the same. The options on the new one are nearly identical and the only real changes are the larger infotainment screens. Not worth the upgrade IHO.

I believe, but have not yet physically been in one yet, that there is more legroom in the rear seat and the trunk, not applicable to the All Terrain, is 30% larger.

Good point about the wheels. They will be replaced with the AMG 19" wheels wearing Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires for a smoother ride than with the 20" wheels. Actually, I believe I prefer the less dramatic 213 body style and certainly the single panoramic panel as more organic compared to the 2-piece panel with the screen behind the steering wheel resembling an afterthought popup screen. This car has the acoustic package, ventilated seats, heads up display, not that I would have ordered them, it just came that way.

@alphapenguin, congrats on the new AT! I have a 2022 AT and it's a fantastic wagon. I plan to order the 214 AT when my lease expires next year, but I think the 213 AT will serve you well for years to come.

@e55phil, I'm a fan of Audi and had an A4 Allroad years ago. The biggest issue for me though with the A6 Allroad is the smaller cargo area (with and without the rear seats down). I need every square inch of cargo space for family vacations, etc. and the sloped hatch of the Allroad makes a big difference. But if MB doesn't bring back the AMG E63 wagon, I may move to the RS6 Avant eventually!

I have the HUD on my S213 that I bought used. Never thought I would want it either but I never look at my gauges any more. Even with polarized sunglasses, I can see it on all but the sunniest days (not so many of those in Vermont).

IIRC they've been in cars from sometime in the '80's. I've been driving cars with HUD for about 25 years. Now days they are a necessity for any car I purchase.
