I have a 2021 E300de, with CarPlay enabled, works fine from the front USB socket, but is it possible to swap out the 2 armrest USB sockets to enable CarPlay from there?
It seems like the wireless phone charging pad doesn’t work well with anything plugged into the from socket, plus I’m tempted to get a 3rd wireless CarPlay adapter and that would be better in the centre armrest.
attach photos of current ports. The cable here has by USB stick with speed camera POIs. Only the left socket works for that too, seems the right port is charging only.

I would recommend that you get the AA Wireless dongle and use a super short USB cable to plug in up front. That could free up space in the charging pad area. This works great with my Iphone.

Am I missing something, AA wireless dongle I can find are only for Android? Doesn’t say it works with iPhone?

AA wireless dongle works for Apple and Android. But be careful not to buy the newest one because it presently only works with Android Auto. https://www.aawireless.io/carplay
Carlinkit's 2air is also a decent product to achieve the same goal. I recently bought it and seems to work fine in my 2019 E450 and with my iPhone. https://www.carlinkit.com/2air

I also own the Carlinkit and I keep it in my travel case for use when I'm in a rental car. The AAWireless however takes us less space than the Carlinkit which is useful in the W213 if you also want to have a place to charge your Iphone.
That is interesting. I did not realize that AAWireless was connected to the car wirelessly... as opposed to Carkinkit which is plugged into the center console USB. That does make it a superior solution.

Ah! I see. I have been using Carlinkit for a couple of months now, but only when I need to use Google maps for navigation, which isn't all the time. But I have attached my carlinkit device to the underside of the cubby lid with a velcro tape so it is out of the way. I can slide my phone in and out easily AND use the cup holders without a problem.
I did consider if I should keep the Carlinkit connected at all times and use Carplay as the default instead of the Comand interface. But I don't love the Carplay interface enough and didn't like the longer startup time. In other words, the Comand system works very well for me for just playing Spotify/podcasts from my phone, which is what I mostly do.
