From Motor Week:
J.P. Vettraino,"Now the bottom line: The M256 debuts in two variants in the S-Class -- one generating 367 peak hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, and the other 435 hp, 384 lb-ft. The latter delivers a stout 145 hp and 128 lb-ft per liter. It’s only 6 percent less peak power than a new, 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 headed to the States in the updated S560. Add the quick burst from the ISG, and the M256’s peaks actually surpass those from the V8. "
Assuming the AMG version of the new W214 will have the 435 hp, 384 lb-ft. variant, put that in your pipe and smoke it.

While the taillight is still taking its sweet time to grow on me, I am wondering ... since MB really liked to put their stars on everything,
the grille https://jbcustoms.es/public/images/p...1677761340.jpg
the lower bumper https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...9046d9f9e.jpeg
the interior https://i.ytimg.com/vi/WNO9icnqRDk/maxresdefault.jpg
their infotainment and start-up screen: https://cdn.motor1.com/images/mgl/ZX...en-teaser.webp
the taillights: https://mezha.media/wp-content/uploa...14-900x600.jpg
I am surprised the designers didn't use the stars as the headlights and called it a day, you know, call it the illuminated star I mean.... the star headlight. I am glad they didn't though. Although given their obsession with their own logo, I am not surprised if they come up with such for the facelift W214.

Granted, it is "just" a concept but still, if MB follows what BMW did with the 4-series concept and put the grille on to a production vehicle, what are the odds MB will be these stars in the headlights in production vehicles, hopefully it stays a concept.

Sorry for jinxing it last time.
Let's hope it just remains a concept, I mean Mercedes' concepts rarely becomes reality anyways, EQS concept vs EQS production, Maybach 6 Cabriolet never made it in to production, EQC concept vs EQC production, Vision AVTR will never be made in to production just to name a few.

uh oh... in that case hopefully they integrate it better than the afterthought one where the taillight housing shape doesn't blend in with the MB star on the W214. Speaking of which, that taillight with the stars still haven't grow on me yet but looking forward to seeing in dealerships in person.

E450 All-Terrain Unveiled and Coming to the US
The new E-Class All-Terrain: the vehicle with unbeatable versatility
The new All-Terrain: enhanced versatility and intelligence
- 4MATIC, AIRMATIC and off-road display as standard
- Distinctive exterior and interior design elements
- Arriving at U.S. dealerships in 2024
Compared to the E-Class Sedan, the All-Terrain model is larger in terms of width (75 inches) and height (58.9 inches). It is nearly the same length as the sedan at 195 inches overall. 18-inch wheels are fitted standard, while 19- and 20-inch wheels are optionally available.
The new E-Class All-Terrain is 1.1 inches wider than the previous model. This makes journeys even more comfortable for passengers in the second row, who now have 59.8 inches of elbow room. The wheelbase has increased by 0.87 inch to 116.6 inches, which creates more kneeroom and legroom for second row occupants.
The vehicle’s sporty back end conceals 21.7 to 64.6 cu-ft of luggage capacity. The second row seat backs can be folded down with a 40:20:40 split. They are operated with two push buttons on the left and right side of the rear seat backrest. The standard EASY PACK tailgate opens and closes conveniently at the push of a button using the key fob, switch in the driver’s door, or the unlocking handle on the tailgate itself. The retractable luggage cover and dividing net have a two-piece design and are also fitted standard.
Off-road design elements
The most eye-catching feature of the striking front end is the twin-louver grille in Iridium Silver with the Mercedes-Benz Star integrated in the center and a Mercedes-Benz pattern. The distinctive front bumper, as well as the chrome underride guard panel also contribute to the rugged appearance.
Distinctive dark grey wheel arch cladding emphasizes the vehicle’s All-Terrain character. The same applies to the side sills, which have a chrome strip.
At the rear, the E-Class All-Terrain boasts a unique bumper with a chrome simulated underride guard.
Off-road design elements also extend to the interior with AMG stainless steel sports pedals and floor mats with All-Terrain logo.
Air suspension as standard throughout
The new E-Class All-Terrain is equipped as standard with AIRMATIC air suspension. This system combines air suspension bellows with adaptive ADS+ dampers for maximum responsiveness. The damping characteristics are controlled automatically at each individual wheel in both the compression and rebound stages. Sophisticated sensor technology and algorithms set the dampers according to the quality of the road surface to ensure that, for example, driving over a bump with one wheel is not transferred to the entire axle and interior.
With level control, AIRMATIC maintains constant ground clearance irrespective of the vehicle load while adapting to conditions as needed. In the COMFORT program, the vehicle is automatically lowered by 0.6 inch at speeds above 75 mph to reduce wind resistance and improve fuel efficiency.
Mild hybrid powertrain
The E-Class All-Terrain is powered by a six-cylinder engine from the Mercedes-Benz family of modular engines (FAME). The engine range plays a major role in the flexibility of the international production network, while helping to meet the growing demand for electrification.
The mild hybrid system with intelligent boost technology and an integrated starter-generator (ISG) complements the turbocharger. A new battery for the system increases output of the electric motor from 20 to 23 hp and the boost torque to 151 lb-ft.
MBUX Superscreen as a highlight of the interior design
The dashboard defines the digital experience in the interior. If the E-Class All-Terrain is equipped with the optional front passenger screen, the large glass surface of the MBUX Superscreen extends to the central display. Visually detached from this is the driver display, positioned in the driver’s field of vision. Vehicles without a front passenger display feature a large trim element that extends to the center. The central display appears to float above the concave surface of this element.
In Off-Road mode, the driver and central displays switch to an off-road screen with easy-to-read data, control options and key functions. In conjunction with the 360° camera, it also offers the “transparent hood” function. The central display shows a virtual view of under the front of the vehicle to enable the driver to better recognize obstacles in the vehicle’s path.
The light strip of the optional Active Ambient Lighting runs across the front section of the dashboard. It forms a long arc, extending from the windshield past the A-pillars to the doors to create a generous sense of space. A floating control array in the upper area of the door panels matches the glass surfaces of the screens.
The center console is a homogeneous design, continuing in a straight line from the lower area of the dashboard. At the front, a stowage compartment with lid and cup holders is integrated into the three-dimensional trim element. A soft padded arm rest adorns the rear portion of the console.
A concave trim element forms a seamless transition from the door center panel into the armrest. The front section is designed as a high-tech metal element. It serves as a grab and closing handle and incorporates the power window controls. Another highlight is the floating control array with the door opener and controls for the seat functions.
The contours of the seat surface and backrest flow elegantly from the inside to the outside and, with their layered design, appear to float above the base of the seat. Vertical folds follow the outside contours, widening towards the top.
Impressive and immersive entertainment experience
The E-Class All-Terrain makes music, games and streaming content a multi-sensory experience1. Thanks to digital innovations in the interior, the E-Class All-Terrain is now more intelligent, achieving a new dimension of personalization and interaction. Meanwhile, the electronic architecture is defined more by software and less by hardware.
The computing functions of previously separate domains are handled by a single processor. Screens and the MBUX infotainment system now share a new powerful central onboard computer. This type of networking boosts the performance and speed of data streams.
The communication module utilizes 5G wireless technology for significantly faster data transfer rates than LTE/UMTS2.
The MBUX Entertainment Plus package will be standard on the new E-Class All-Terrain. It includes Mercedes me connect services and a data package from a third-party provider.
Digital vehicle key3 now available for iPhone and Apple Watch
The E-Class All-Terrain can be locked, unlocked and started with the digital key. The driver simply needs a compatible device4 paired with the vehicle via Mercedes me connect. Key sharing is also possible. Owners can send a digital invitation to friends and family to use the E-Class All-Terrain. The main user of the Mercedes me account can also assign different rights to permit invited users only to enter the vehicle or also to drive it. The vehicle can recognize up to 16 individuals as shared users of the digital vehicle key. The E-Class All-Terrain can be pre-equipped for the digital key as part of the KEYLESS GO comfort package5.
Music you can see: sound visualization
With the new optional Active Ambient Lighting with Sound Visualization, occupants can experience sound with three senses. Music and sound from movies or apps can be heard (with Dolby Atmos® technology if desired), felt (with sound-resonating transducers in the standard Burmester® 4D surround sound system) and now also “seen.” It is visualized on the light strip of the Active Ambient Lighting. For example, fast sequences of beats can produce rapidly shifting light patterns, while flowing rhythms can create gentle lighting transitions.
The entertainment experience for the front passenger is also impressive. With the switchable passenger display, the front passenger can watch dynamic content such as streaming video, even if the driver attempts to glance at the screen. The advanced camera-based privacy filter automatically dims the passenger display to reduce the risk of driver distraction.
New third-party apps and selfie/video camera
The software experts at Mercedes-Benz developed a new compatibility layer that allows the installation of third-party apps6. At launch of the E-Class All-Terrain, the following apps are available on the central display7: the TikTok entertainment platform, Angry Birds game, Webex collaboration app, Zoom video conferencing app and Vivaldi web browser. In addition, the standard ZYNC entertainment portal8 offers video streaming, on-demand content, interactive experiences, local video programs, sports, news, games and much more on the central and optional passenger display, via one user interface.
Another new feature is a selfie and video camera (part of the optional MBUX Superscreen) on top of the dashboard9. When the vehicle is stationary, the driver10 can use video conferencing tools, such as Webex or Zoom, or take selfies and videos.
For greater operating convenience with MBUX, the “Just Talk” function can now activate the intelligent voice control without saying “Hey Mercedes.” When the function is activated, a red microphone symbol appears in the display to indicate the vehicle is ready to receive commands.
Added day-to-day convenience: MBUX routines
Mercedes-Benz is pursuing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to enable the car to learn which comfort systems are used most often. Given the same circumstances, AI will automate these functions11. The result is personalized automation. Mercedes-Benz uses the term “routine” for this innovation.
At launch of the new E-Class All-Terrain, customers will be able to use templates for standard routines. They can also create new MBUX routines by combining functions and conditions. For example, “Switch on the seat heating and set the ambient lighting to warm orange if the interior temperature is below 54 degrees Fahrenheit.”
Numerous driver assistance systems, including advanced systems
Driver assistance systems12 provided standard with the new E-Class All-Terrain include, among others, ATTENTION ASSIST, Active Brake Assist and Parking Package with reversing camera. The status and activity of the systems are shown as a full-screen view in the Assistance section of the driver’s display.
Further assistance technology is also available in the Driver Assistance Package. This includes Active Steering Assist, which helps drivers to remain centered in the lane, along with Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Active Lane Keeping Assist and Active Speed Limit Assist. If Active Steering Assist is no longer available because lane markings are not clearly visible, the steering wheel vibrates to alert the driver. The E-Class All-Terrain now also features the extended restart function for stop-and-go traffic in city traffic and on country roads, in addition to highway driving.
Restraint systems aligned with sophisticated bodyshell concept
The safety concept of the E-Class All-Terrain is based on a body with a highly rigid passenger cell and crash structures with specific deformation patterns. The restraint systems, e.g. seatbelts and airbags, are designed with these in mind. In the event of an accident, they help provide optimal protection for the occupants based on the situation.
Along with driver and passenger airbags, the driver side knee airbag is also standard equipment. It can protect the driver’s legs from contact with the steering column or instrument panel in a severe frontal collision. The standard window airbags can reduce the risk of head injuries. In the event of a serious side-on collision, the window airbag on the side of the impact extends from the A- to the C-pillar like a curtain over the front and rear side windows. If a rollover is detected, the window airbags can be activated on both sides. In addition to the head-protection system, side airbags can also cover the thorax area in the event of a severe side impact – including on the outer rear seats (optional).
Pyrotechnically triggered belt tensioners and force limiters are standard on all outer seats. The same applies to seatbelt height adjustment.
Resource-conserving materials
Numerous E-Class All-Terrain components are made partly from resource-conserving materials (recycled products and renewable raw materials). In the foam of the seats, certified recycled raw materials are used for the first time according to the “mass balance approach.” Their properties do not differ from those of raw materials produced from crude oil. This reduces the use of fossil-based resources while continuing to meet stringent quality standards.
Net carbon-neutral production at the Sindelfingen plant
Since 2022, the production of vehicles and batteries at all Mercedes-Benz Group plants worldwide has been net carbon neutral. All externally sourced electricity comes exclusively from renewable energies and is therefore carbon-free. In addition, the company aims to increase the generation of renewable energy at its locations. By the end of 2024, further investments will be made in photovoltaic systems on the entire Sindelfingen site, which is also focusing on a steady reduction in water consumption and waste.
E-Class Wagon: a success story with a long pedigree
Mercedes-Benz has produced more than 16 million cars in the upper midsize segment since 1946. In August 1966, the Mercedes-Benz Universal, a wagon built by Belgian partner IMA, made its debut in the sales program. Based on the 200 D to 230 S “fintail” models, it was the first official Mercedes-Benz wagon.
The wagon version of the 123 series entered production in April 1978, marking the start of a long success story that has produced well over one million wagons. The “T” in the German word for wagon, “T-Modell,” originally suggested “Touring” or “Transport,” but has since also come to mean “Trendsetter.” The wagon model, with its loyal fan base, especially in Germany, is firmly established as a perennial favorite – and not only in the full-size segment. Every E-Class generation that followed has its own wagon (S 124, S 210, S 211, S 212, S 213) – and also as an All-Terrain model in the U.S. since 2020.

SO there we have it. No luxury or standard version for the USA, just another cladded up SUV wannabe for the "loyal fan base".

Overall a continuation of the S213 AT…which is a good thing…thought they might have doubled down on the off-road appearance as Subaru and others seem to be doing. Looks like a cross between the S213 and Volvo V90…again, a good thing. Would be great if Alcantara headliner and badge delete (as the photo car has) make the US options list. Bummed they ditched the touch pad and volume scroll wheel with the 214…I use them constantly…but thrilled we will likely have an ICE wagon available for the next ~7 years!
Edit: And best of all…no fake exhaust tips! Is someone over there actually listening?!
Can anybody see what size those rear tires are?

I feel you on the pricing. I'm heading for an SL next, but will likely go the used route and take advantage of depreciation.
