Most but I don't think all. I finally managed to mute out "Hey Mercedes". The witch was listening to my conversations and would occasionally interject an opinion. Not as much in conversations with a passenger, but really annoying when I'm on a call. Just don't ask me how I did it......

It could be a user issue as well since this is the first time I'm reading about someone having an problem of "Hey Mercedes" interjecting a call.

Yes turning off hey Mercedes isn't a bad idea, all you need to do is press/tap the capacitive button on the steering wheel to bring up the voice command without the car actively listening or interrupting you whenever you say Mercedes. I can see why it is annoying if you have a friend called Mercedes or your spouse is named Mercedes, as an example.

Actually, first time hearing that as well, really curious how it happened so we can prevent it.

If you’re alone in the car, you don’t even have to say Hey Mercedes. You can just issue a command and she’ll respond. It’s programmed to assume if you’re the only one in the car you’re talking to MBUX. I didn’t think that applied if you’re on the phone though.

It doesn't affect the phone call itself. It responds to what I'm saying on the call. Like I may talk about a friend to has some stability issues and Mercedes would pipe in that "Stability controls cannot be activate while the car is in gear". Stuff like that. Or I'll make a comment about the weather and temperatures of late and Mercedes will say "Adjusting temperatures to 75 degrees".

Interesting, I don't see why it was a good idea for it to respond to you when you are on a phone call, something might had glitched if it was accepting/responding to commands while on a phone call.

Does the car determine if there are passengers in the vehicle through the same system used to detect if there is a front passenger, which sounds the seatbelt chime? Assuming there are such sensors at the back too?

Are you using the MBUX system for the phone call or just using your phone in the car without the car speaker or mic? The system should ignore you while on a call. Pretty sure mine does as I've never had this happen but now I'm going to try by using the wake word while on a call.

I’m sure each seat has a sensor - front and back.

I'm using my iPhone which is linked to MBUX. But speaking of using the phone, another thing I didn't like is after making a call to someone in my contact list, I got an icon on the center screen that said who I called and that stayed on the screen for days. Couldn't figure out how to delete it. And I thought great: Imagine you're married and you have you mistress's phone in you contact list, and you call her in the car. The next day your wife gets in the car and sees that you called someone named Samantha.....

That's part of the suggestions or recommendations feature. It can be disabled in settings. You can also fine tune it and allow recommendations based on several categories. I don't recall exactly where it is, but it's in settings.

One of my favorite movie lines is from "Sabrina". It's: Sometimes more isn't better, Linus, it's just more. Pretty much describes the MBUX in this car.

To turn on/off the "Hey Mercedes" wake-up word on your MBUX system, navigate to your car's settings, then go to "System" and find the option related to "Linguatronic" or "Voice Assistant" where you can toggle the "Hey Mercedes" activation off; essentially, you're disabling the voice command wake-up feature. Key steps:Access your car's settings menu, Select "System", Find the option related to "Linguatronic" or "Voice Assistant", and Toggle the "Hey Mercedes" wake-up word off.

Just about everything can be disabled or customized. More customization is better IMHO.

Speaking of customizations, for some reason MB has been removing them one by one over iterations of MBUX, features like standby mode, car wash mode (for those who doesn't hand wash), certain themes, instrument cluster display styles and customizations of left and right side.

I mean, there has to be a reason why removed it, but why?

to start charging for upgrades….unfortunately. We also see that newer releases of models sometimes delete features from the older models and add them back in with the facelift. Options such as parking sensors, full dynamic front seat packages, and three zone climate control come to mind. Many of these companies really screw the beta testers.

I miss the days when you could do a remote start from the key fob and not have to have a paid subscription and have to do it with a cellphone. I can't think of too many times I need to start the vehicle when I'm 50 miles away.... I have a 2019 SL450 and its "MBUX" won't even do a remote start. Basically you can only lock and unlock the doors remotely with the cellphone. WOW. I asked why no remote start and the answer was, well it's a convertible. Had to remind them it's a hardtop convertible but of course that didn't change things.

Mercedes isn't the only company that de-features their vehicle. My 2018 V90 Volvo had several items standard that the 2024 doesn't have, and in many cases just aren't available as options.

Fair to say the only reason why they add it back because of customers' demand for them to do so or that is what they gathered from complaints and surveys, sort of like what they did "backfired?"

I see, what were some features they removed and brought it back, and what are some that they removed and never made it available again? Curious.

Two features they took away for the MB E-Class are the double visors and the button to lower the rear head rests. My 2012 E had both features. The remote button to lower the rear head rests is not too big of a deal, but the missing dual sun visor is a something I used all the time.
