EQB complimentary 30 minutes electrify america charge

EQB comes with complimentary 30 minutes electrify america charge, does that mean every time it will only charge to 80%. Can I charge a second 30 minutes at electrify america to charge to 100%?

You have to wait 30 min between charges. And there is no point to charge to 100%. The charging from 80-100% is considerably slower (read about charging curves).

Then of course your challenges are 1) Proximity of EA station 2)How many of the chargers are out of service 3) How long a wait you are willing or able to tolerate 4)Charging speeds and delivery vary and are usually considerably slower than you anticipate.

Your best bet is charging at home which is the intent. I charge my car to 100% since it is a lease and I don't care about longevity of battery. If you are keeping the car for many years, you might not want to charge to 100% since it does diminish battery life.

I charged on EA a bit after getting the vehicle as "proof of concept." If I were driving a long distance, then I would depend upon public charging.

The 30-min free that manufacturers are offering is, IMHO, a major cause of the melt-down of an already poorly run and overly ambitious EA. It simply cannot handle the volume and that makes things worse for travelers who really need the public charging.

My honest advice, do it once or twice to prove it can be done. Then charge at home.

There is a lot of talk in the EQS forum about EA charging, currently. There's been some recent change that is making it difficult/impossible to initiate a charge from either the car or the Mercedes Me app. EA says it is Mercedes fault, and Mercedes says it is EA's fault. For me, I'm still able to charge directly from the EA app, although I have to pay for it. So for the free 30 minutes, it is just not worth the bother. Charge at home and forget it. If you're on the road like I've been lately, I don't have a choice. Maybe there will be a future update from one or both apps that will make things work again.

My experience with EA is that it will charge free for 30 minutes, but that is not necessarily to 80%. If you leave it connected it will continue to charge, but not for free.
i was told, but have not tried disconnecting and then reconnecting immediately will get you another 30 minutes of free charge

Yes, you can charge a second time to get to 100% for free after you disconnect (finish on EA display screen) and reconnect the charger. Typically I've seen it'll take an additional 15-20 more minutes to get to 100% on the 350 kw chargers. Biggest selling point was the free charging from EA for 2 years, so I only charge at EA.

After 30 minutes, EA charges you but I find it’s not much. I tried just reconnecting, but it appears you have to wait a bit before it will give you another free 30 minutes. If your time is important, it’s easier just to stay hooked up till you reach the level you’re looking for

Just got my CPO. Yes it comes with free charging but only from the time that the car was purchased by the first owner. So I still got another 7-8 months left. The sales person said the trick to get 30 mins is to disconnect and then use the app to charge again. He said that's how he does it on his eqb.

No, you get 30 minutes free, and any additional energy needed beyond thirty minutes is charged at the normal rate. If you start very low, or the charger is having problem supplying full power (e.g., the cooling of the cable is not working), you may not make it to 80% in thirty minutes. I usually charge around 20%-25% with a completion target of 80% and sometimes go over a few minutes. If you try to charge to 100% it will take much, much longer than thirty minutes and is not recommended by Mercedes for normal usage. The maximum charge rate of the battery drops dramatically at 80%, so that last 20% can take a very long time. People usually fill up their gas tank when refueling, but that is because gasoline dispensers only stop automatically at full. Charging takes a while longer, but there is no requirement that you always charge to a particular level. If you want to avoid paying for charging the first two years, just stop charging after 30 minutes and go about your business. Charge again for 30 minutes when you get low again a few days later.

If you try back to back charging sessions, EA will cancel your free charging.
