The stork from Fletcher Jones Motor Cars just dropped off this new EQE AMG for me to replace my 2022 Model S Long Range.

This was a very difficult decision for me as I loved my Model S and the cohesive package it offers in terms of tech, range, performance, and versatility.

However, having experienced other manufactures attempts of luxury performance EVs, I realized I was missing an emotional connection with the Model S.

Well, that’s been solved with the EQE AMG, it is an absolute beast. The dynamism and overall competence seems familiar right away, but what I’ve been missing in my last 4 years of multi Tesla ownership.

Been smiling ear to ear every time I get behind the wheel.

How long did it take you to get it? In my case, it was nine months between the order and arrival. I think you will really like it, especially the level three driving assist. It really is amazing!

They had it in stock. I got really lucky, every single option besides ceramics.

Teslas autopilot is still better, but this is good enough that I could still warrant the switch. The Model S is an exceptionally competent car in every regard. However, it doesn’t stir your soul and so far I’m enjoying the level of engagement the EQE AMG requires to drive.

Congrats! I was contemplating black but I chickened out and got graphite gray, aka by my daughter as pencil lead color. Does the EQE feels as nimble as the model S?

it feels much sportier and focused. If you read the press release and watch the reviews the car is totally different than the non AMG variant. It’s a bit frenetic in its nature and takes focus to drive similar to an M5 or E63.

the Model S is a better all around car. With a drastically higher storage capacity with the frunk, hatch, and rear underfloor storage. More comfortable rear accommodations, 405 miles of range, and a more supple ride quality.

The EQE is just way way more fun and focused. I’m not regretting it so far. I love the Nappa leather, the artistry, the light shows inside and outside, the head up display, massage seats, and frankly the provenance associated with crafting of an AMG Mercedes. It just feels special. And that’s what’s missing with any Tesla.

If you have not done so, you might try the performance option, which unlocks about 60 additional HP. You can try it for a month, then turn it on permanently if you like it.

Performance package is standard in the US. It’s definitely a weapon… The only detriment is how much lower the range is compared to Model S. Like 200 miles lower, however I’m guessing the Mercedes will be more accurate in its rating.

It was not standard when I checked. You might want to check again as Mercedes made it an option with the 2024 models. :-(

And yes, the range estimates from Mercedes are real, not marketing fluff like Tesla.

However, the acceleration numbers with the performance option are a bit conservative. Real world testing indicates the EQE is about 1 second faster than Mercedes claims.

Interesting, the performance package shows as standard on my Monroney 🤷‍♂️.

My Tesla Model S is rated at 405 miles and probably around 370 real world. Still another universe than the EQE as well as the 250kw fast charging… That being said I have longer range EVs for long range trips so this car can be more focused and less practical for all uses.
