Trying to find a dealership with a "reasonable" upcharge in California
Hi members,
A couple of days ago we attended an EQS580 test drive event in SoCal. She is sold on the EQS580. I am torn between it and the Lucid AirGT. In truth, the EQS has the edge.
But, the dealership we usually buy our MB from, is quoting me a $35K upcharge for it. I wonder if I can go out of state if I register the car in California?
Are there any dealerships in CA that generally have a lower upcharge?
What's been your experience?

2022 EQS 580 4matic, 2022 GLS 450
I just bought an EQS 580V4 from the local dealer in Louisiana for MSRP window sticker with a KBB max price on the trade and no upcharge.. .
They still have two 450s on the lot.

I was torn between Lucid AGT and EQS , but realized more than half of Lucid is funded and owned Mohammed Bin Salman (Saudi dictator), who brutally murdered a columnist at a US newspaper that did not agree with him. So I choose to go for the EQS. If lucid changes their ownership structure maybe I’ll consider them down the line.

In fact I am buying my EQS from my out of state dealer at MSRP because in south Florida the dealers are adding an ADM.

100% agreed. I am so surprised that quality publications like motor-trend, did not even disclose this fact in their car-of-the-year article, treating LUCID like the other "California start-up", Tesla. It is a Catch-22, they built a factory in Arizona which supports American jobs, but any profit goes directly to the same regime that indirectly supported the attacks on 9/11. Regardless, this is an EQS forum, and I am happy with my decision to have an order pending for the EQS. Best of luck with your search finding a dealer. In Texas, some dealers are not selling out-of-state.

So, I placed my order for the EQS580 custom spec'd and no dealer upcharge at all. Our current dealer "was" Simonson in Santa Monica. But, we thought let's drive the same distance East instead of West and visit Beverly Hills Mercedes. What a difference. No bull**** from the sales staff. No upcharge. The dealership building is WOW.

That is the kind of reception I got at Simonson. Strange.

Yes, agreed. Beverly Hills MB is the worst. A lot of bait and switch there. I was promised an EQS 580 at $0 markup but when push came to shove the guy said it was not market value and wanted $40k above MSRP. I told him I'd pay $10k max above and they passed. I went with my local dealer in San Diego who has been much more transparent.

I was able to get my EQS 450+ with Hyperscreen for a little under $18K markup. The dealer originally had it at a $35K markup. The models with Hyperscreens are getting the biggest markups, from what I have observed. I purchased mine from MB of Pleasanton. I felt the salesman, Ahmad, really did try to help me out with making the deal. I think they were more flexible because they had a prior deal fall through after the buyer stalled some and then it was still unsold after a few days.
The MSRP on the car was originally around $117k. Their first "deal" was to knock the markup down to $25k for a total of $142k before tax. I came back a few days later and offered $150k all-in with taxes and fees and they accepted, with the final price on the car just above $135k.
I hope this helps.

I've had good luck with Calabasas Mercedes Benz.
