No Split Folding Rear Seats? 2024 EQS 450 Sedan
No Split Folding Rear Seats? 2024 EQS 450 Sedan
Hi all,
Tried to fold the rear seats, but couldn't find any buttons in the trunk or on the rear seats themselves. I thought they were standard on the 2024 eqs 450 sedans? Or is it optional? I have the executive rear seat package and pinnacle trim. Thanks in advance!

@sjhwilkes ,
This is a great point of discussion, and the confusion is completely understandable because the configuration did, in fact, change after the 2023 model year.
Based on both owner experience and the official dealer guides, here is the definitive breakdown:
The release mechanism is located only on the seats themselves, via the levers on the top shoulder of the outboard rear seats. There are no factory release levers in the trunk on these models.
Starting with the 2024 model year, Mercedes made the system more convenient for all trims. These models now have two release locations:
Hope this provides a truly definitive answer.

For 2022-2023 EQS Sedan Models:

For 2024 and Newer EQS Sedan Models:
Starting with the 2024 model year, Mercedes made the system more convenient for all trims. These models now have two release locations:
- The original release levers/buttons on the top shoulder of the seats.
- A new, second set of illuminated release levers in the trunk, high up on the sides.
Hope this provides a truly definitive answer.

There is significant confusion about this feature, likely because the configuration changed between the 2023 and 2024 model years. Based on owner experience and a review of the dealer guides, here is the definitive breakdown.

There are no factory release levers in the trunk on these models. *(Note: As the 2022 was a launch year with potential packaging inconsistencies, verifying a specific '22 build via its VIN is still the safest approach.)

Thanks for the reply, @sjhwilkes !
Thanks for your answer, @J_Boxer! I can't believe the legend himself replied
. By the way, you inspired me to lease my current vehicle. I initially thought it would be too far out of my price range! Turns out to be the best decision ever
I'm quite certain I don't see any buttons on the top shoulder of the rear seats or in the trunk. I'll send photos tomorrow. Thanks!

Now, that's a very interesting development regarding the seat releases. The inconsistency between model years is already a known issue, but this adds a new layer to the puzzle.
The photos you offered to send would be immensely helpful. A picture is worth a thousand words and will definitely help us solve this mystery.
In the meantime, here’s one "insider" thing you can check that is 100% specific to your exact car: the digital owner's manual in your MBUX system. Use the search function for "folding seats." It should show a diagram of the exact release mechanism that was installed on your vehicle from the factory. Sometimes a running production change is reflected in the car's digital manual before it's widely known.
Looking forward to seeing the photos. We'll get to the bottom of it.

The AMG EQS Sedan is the primary exception across all model years. Due to its unique AMG performance rear seats, this model does not come with a folding rear seat function. I believe @MB37 has this model and can likely verify.

I have the executive rear package with massage/heat/cool, recline, and tablet. The rear seats DO fold forward. The lever is above the back rest on either side. I had to return a garden crate which my wife hoarded (never to use). She said if I can take it back in my car, go for it. So I did with the seats folded down instead of using her Lexus LX. She was not very happy.

Thank you for the very kind words. It's fantastic to hear that my other posts were helpful in your decision—that's what this community is all about. Congratulations on the new car!

From the trunk looking forward, do you see the split between the seats? It's odd that if you have the pinnacle trim and executive seating that they would actually omit and have the fold down as another option.
Yes I do. It looks like it’s split in two with one portion longer than the other. Indeed quite odd. I think I’ll contact the salesperson—maybe they did something to it and forgot to put back the electronic button?

We just have similar wives.
