AutoX Sat, 6/28, Nassau Coliseum, LI!!!
The event is being held by the new york chapter of bmwcca. http://www.nybmwcca.com/autocross.
The other two events I did were
6/8 http://www.themclub.net
6/15 http://www.nasanortheast.net/
Both were a lot of fun and I was the only MB there. This is unacceptable. Please post in this thread any interest in either participating, going to watch me beat up my coupe, or any questions I might be able to answer for you.
FAQ-
There are no age limits. You just need a valid drivers license.
You don't need a racing license.
You don't need a modified car.
The main goal is for you to enjoy your car, push your car, and yourself. Most importantly, have fun.
You race against the clock.
The course is laid out in small cones, so there is minimal risk of damage to your vehicle.

I might make it - will have to see. New brakes in the crx went in this weekend. Sweet, but don't know about racing them so soon without breaking the rotors in correctly.
Where can I purchase a helmet?
Do I need to register before the event or can I do everything when I get there on Saturday?
Hey I think I might be going to this AutoX on Saturday with a couple of friends. I have a couple of questions.

I didn't see a pre-reg online so get there early and register at the event.
I don't know about those loaner helmets. I'm not feeling that too much.
I'd rather scramble around online and find the closest place by me that sells them.

Isn't there someone from the area with a C32, 36, or 43 that could make me look like a chump on the course?
I mean, is there no one else in this region with an MB and a pulse?

Here's a photo of my car so you will be able to find me if you want to say hi.
Just don't expect me to NOT try to talk you into running the Benz... it's just too pretty. The name's Thomas... Just look for the guy that looks like Joe Dirt with a bunch of tattoos

The C Sport Coupe's are really good at autocrossing, especially with the short wheel base and the ESP off!
Don't get me wrong, I love bimmer's, my last car was one. I just would like to see more then one MB run at the events.

I would love to see your 202 ripping it up.
The coupe surprised a few of us. I thought it was too heavy and underpowered to really do this well. Whoa, was I wrong. The coupe has been doing really well. I've only done two events before. The first one I over drove the car a little, then second I was putting out some good times. I was one of 25 or 30 people out of a hundred or more to break 40 seconds at a NASA event.
First thread from the M Club event here.
The thread from the NASA event (more pics) here.
Tommy owns a coupe and we were both really shocked at how well the coupe did stock. Bimmers beware, now I am running springs and sways...
Are you doing the SCCA event Sunday at the same location?
If I don't find a ride at the event, you'll see me running it. If I do find a ride, I can talk to the event chair and see if he'll let me take it out for a fun run at the end of the day.
Its too bad that you have installed a set of springs now. That will move you into the SP or STS. If you just did the sway's you could have stayed in the stock class. I'm sure it looks great and handles better, but its easier to do well in the stock class.
I will be running in STX. And since I have a 2.3, I am in for a would of hurt in ESP. So, actually, I might as well go coilovers and camber plates and prey the suspension would bail me out.
This is what I was told. I will know for sure on Sunday.
Look forward to seeing you today (I never sleep)
My best raw time was a 54.86n. All of my other runs were high 55s and low 56s so the 54 is actual good, or the others are bad. The best times I had seen where 52s and 51s, someone else had said they had seen a 50 and 49. I'll have to wait for the results to come out to know how I did.
Oh, and I bashed a raised area of pavement on my way home and now my steering wheel is wobbling. Alignment time!
Hopefully, I will do better tomorrow if I run... I need to check out the driveshaft and play with the allignment.
GJ, how to I get access to the bolt that holds on the seatbelt receptor to get my harness bolted in correctly.
Bad Eleni, no show...
I was going to come out anyway to watch but we decided to work on putting the system in the BMW. The stock radio and speakers really suck in the 91 850.
Tommy loaned me his helmet and I meant to PM you to let you know I had a clean helmet for you to borrow.....
You going to the cruise tomorrow?
There is a Porsche (PDA) event at the same location next weekend.
Then there is the M Club event on the 11th at 2 pm.
If the steering wheel is off center or the car is pulling, that's an alignment issue.
As far as the seat belt. It depends on which mounting point you want to get to. I think the actual seat belt does not get mounted to the seat on those cars. I believe its on a slide rail on the floor, and then inside the B Pillar.
If you want to use harnesses, you would need to remove the plastic trim panel on the side of the seat with the latch. should be 2 phillips head screws, you need a thin screwdriver to get in there. Then I believe the rail on the floor is a Torx (i'm not sure what size off hand) and then you would probably need to remove lower part of the rear seat to gain access to the rear seat belt mounting points for the harness.
Eleni-
Most clubs do have loaner helmets available. But like most people, I can understand why you would rather have your own.
nukblazi-
It was nice meeting you and I'll probably be seeing you at more events. You have only done a few events, you need some more seat time to become better, but you do have the basic principles down which is very good.
I am going to get the tires flipped and the allignment done this week.
I know I need more seat time. I was just saying that I felt it was within my current abilities to have done better then I did. I just kept overdriving that first 170 degree turn. I felt ok on the rest of the course...
It was nice to meet you too. I was thinking about going to the PDA event at the same parking lot next weekend.
The harness is in but I can't get to the one bolt without either removing the seat or the center console. I just temporarily fixed it to the lower backseat hinge bolt. Maybe I can get to the seatbelt piece with another tool... I'll figure it out this week.
There was just this funky 170 degree turn really close to the begin that I screwed up almost every run. I got instrcution and requested advice on it from other very good drivers. I tried to do exactly as I was told but I either braked to early, to late, or the one time I got it right and shifted down to first, I almost spun on the exit spinning my tires in first. I just couldn't get that bugger right, and I was losing a few seconds locking up tires or overdriving it. Annoying.
I didn't get any pics this time. I've managed to lose my camera...
Arg, anyway, I have some repairs to make by next weekend. Sux...
Usually its a week and everyone goes nuts about wanting the results
That 170* turn was very tricky. It was a first gear turn to the right, and you were coming out of a slolom up to it, and it was very difficult to get over far enough to make a smooth arc out of the turn.
I know some people that were there with camera's. I'm going to e-mail them and see if I can get a hold of them. I know a bunch of people were photographing my power slides.
Right to the cones and then he straightened it right out without ANY over corrections... They were even butta smooth in the passenger seat... I think I've found me someone to learn from between him, lo_buck, and MCoupe...
Andrea's coupe looked sweet as hell. I've always wanted one of those.
mercedes_tuner, what bmw are you reassembling?
Edit- and could you email me a service contact at whiteplains? check your PMs.
