MB Extended Limited Warranty Basics Thread
AN FYI for those who might be in the same situation as myself! I have the soon-to-expire max extended CPO. What a Mercedes dealer is able to offer "from Mercedes" is either an extension to your base 1 yr CPO, and/or offer a CPO 1, 2, or 3 yrs, for those still under the original factory warranty.
So, for those like myself, it appears the only option at this point, is a 3rd party Vehicle Service Contract (VSC), which then, seemingly requires a physical inspection of your vehicle by the dealership selling the VSC. Which, for a vehicle like mine, that has NEVER been without a factory warranty or CPO, and had full service by Mercedes, isn't really necessary, but maybe there are ways around this obstacle. especially if the dealership is hundreds of miles away.
Maybe someone who has dealt with this issue and found a quality VSC at a great price can chime in!
2018 GLC300 4Matic. Mfg warranty up in July, 2021. Bought the 3 year maintenance package after the initial service, but individually service can be really pricey.

In any case, the main point remains the same: Not all coverage is the same. Shop around.
Read the actual contract to determine what you are being sold.
I called dealer where I purchased my ELW. I spoke to someone in the finance department. They asked why I wanted to cancel and I told them I was planning on selling the car. They said I could email them the odometer statement after the sale and they would cancel the warranty with MBUSA.
Does this sound legit? Or am I being given the runaround?

However, I received conflicting information concerning when to buy the ELW. I don't recall who told me but one of them told me that I should buy it before I actually take title to the car. The other person stated just the opposite. That if I buy the ELW while MBFS is the owner, the ELW would be in the name of MBFS and would be cancelled when they sold the car to me. This would require effort on the part of the Finance officer who sold me the ELW to get the ELW registered in my name. I personally think this could involve additional fees.
Does anyone have experience with this issue? Do I buy the ELW before I have buy the car this week from MBFS or after I have the title? Jeff also mentioned an aside that the ELW price the MBUSA charges will increase in February.
Car ownership has become a nightmare full of expensive traps
Thanks

ANyone have thoughts on what to be aware of I narrow the choice. Should be this week that I negotiate for one.

(Also my 1st MB, took delivery and then bought the 7yr/100k warranty from Jeff back in October, 2020, but my Mercedes Me app still says 4 year/50k).

BTW I’m ready to buy out mine too. My dealer wanted over $3K for 3/75K ELW!!
Unless things have changed since 2017, your sales guy might be wrong?
Fast forward one year. We put another 10k on the vehicle with longer road trips to visit national parks, relatives, ski resorts, etc. As soon as we hit 60k the whole car starts to shake and it has now been in the shop for a week. They are going to replace the fuel injectors and see if that fixes the problem. I will update this post when I get the final bill (of course it should be zero but I'm going to ask what it would have cost). At this point I have no regrets, and we still have another 2.5 year/40k miles left under warranty. Of course I have a free loaner until the car is fixed.
Now for the advice: as noted above most parts typically wear by mileage not time. In my view 9k per year is probably the over/under for these warranties. If you drive less then it may not make sense because your parts will not break within the extended period. But once German cars hit 50k all bets are off, and I have typically seen some repairs between 50-75k and even more expensive repairs from 75k-100k.
